If you’re looking for a new winter jacket, why not make it Merino wool! With exceptional warmth, breathability, and a touch of style, a Merino wool jacket can make a functional & fashionable addition to any winter wardrobe.

Although, not all Merino wool jackets are made the same. Some brands use wool as a traditional fleece fabric, while others stuff the wool in a nylon shell as a lightweight insulator. The moral of the story is finding the perfect Merino wool jacket for you can be challenging.

Luckily, we sift through the crap at Merino Wool Gear, so you don’t have to! With our not-so-expert opinion, we narrowed down the best Merino wool jackets and outerwear for this winter 2023 season. Let’s get started

Merino Wool Jacket Buying Guide

Before I get into my favorite Merino wool jackets and outerwear of the season, it would benefit you to learn more about how I selected the products. Each coat comes from a reputable Merino wool brand made with high-quality material.

Still, to find the best Merino wool jacket for you, we’ve broken down our buying guide into four main categories: warmthfunctionstyle & fit. Learn more about each below!

First and foremost, your Merino wool jacket should protect you against the elements. Merino wool is a fantastic insulator, as it is lightweight, warm, breathable and maintains its temperature-regulating properties even when wet.

Merino’s natural crimp creates a zip-zag, three-dimensional loft that traps in warm air and offers extra insulation. It’s one of the warmest natural materials available!

Although the warmth of each Merino wool jacket is dependent on several factors like construction, fabric weight, design, and more! Take fabric weight, for example. The thicker, heavyweight material is warmer but may not breathe as well. Check out the simple guide from Minus33 below if you want a specific temperature range.

Merino Wool Layering Chart From Minus33

Before dropping hundreds of dollars on a new Merino wool jacket, you should ask yourself: “How am I going to use this jacket?” We don’t want you spending your hard-earned money on something that will sit in your closet all year!

Various Merino Wool Jackets

Thanks to Merino wool’s versatility in manufacturing, Merino wool functions in various ways across some of the products you’ll see today. Some use wool batting as insulation, while others use a dense-weather-proof knit. Either way, all of these jackets are high-performing!

Moreover, most of these jackets are made for specific purposes. Some are made for high-alpine treks, while others are more suited for the challenges of daily life. You’ll get the most value by understanding which type of jacket works best in your life.

Warmth and function are nothing without style! We want you to look good in your new Merino wool jacket. You’ll see various styles and fits – from next-to-skin insulators to traditional fit outer layers.

Wool and Prince Ponte Jacket

If one of these jackets catches your eye, consult the brand’s sizing charts before ordering. Most brands have excellent return policies, but it’s always better to be on the safe side

Merino wool is expensive; there’s really no getting around it. But, if you care for your Merino wool properly, you’ll get every penny out of it.

As for the eleven best Merino wool jackets & outerwear, you’ll see today, the average price tag is $303 (I did the math). Although a couple of the higher-end coats are pushing the average up, the majority are under $250 (I did the math again).

I typically denote the price in a range of $-$$$$$, rather than a number, because you never know when a last-chance sale may happen, or maybe even one of these jackets goes out of production. It’s hard to keep up with all those price changes, so the range works better. If you want an exact price for each jacket, click the button below each description to find out the latest from each brand!

Editor’s Choice: Best Merino Wool Jacket

Woolx Fairbanks Jacket

Woolx Fairbanks Jacket

Pros: Simple, timeless design | Dense, warm knit construction| High-quality, Woolmark-certified Merino

Cons: Fit discrepancies | Dry-clean only

It’s simple; it won’t turn any heads, but it will get the job done. The Woolx Fairbanks Jacket is a classic, heavyweight everyday zip-up made for year-round use. You can wear it as an outer layer down to freezing conditions, and since it has such a low bulk, you can throw a puffer overtop if the temperature gets into the single digits.

Yet the reason I love this jacket – and all Woolx gear, for that matter – is the high-quality material. Using a thick, looped Merino wool yarn, this jacket has a soft, dense knit. It can trap your body heat inside while blocking out the cold. And, as it’s high-quality, Woolmark-certified Merino wool, you won’t find a better lightweight insulator on the market. It’s a five-star fabric, that’s for sure!

Moreover, the Boucle knit creates a nub-like texture, which is unique in its own right. However, due to this knit construction, you won’t be able to wash this Merino wool jacket at home. So, you’ll have to visit the dry cleaners once or twice a year, no big deal!

Overall, the Fairbanks Jacket is one warm, high-performing, and highly versatile piece of Merino wool gear! Woolx calls it your “go everywhere, do anything jacket,” and I agree! With handwarmer pockets, a wind-resistant knit, and the natural temperature-regulating properties of Merino wool, this jacket will keep you toasty this winter and every season in between. Head over to Woolx below to get one for yourself!

Best Merino Wool Hoodie For Winter

Minus33 Kodiak Brushed Wool Hoodie

Minus33 Kodiak Brushed Fleece Hoodie

Pros: Ultra-warm, versatile layering piece | Brushed fleece interior | 3-Pocket design

Cons: Finicky zippers | Potential sizing issues

I love a solid Merino wool hoodie. They are so comfy and warm, especially considering how lightweight they can be. And while there are a bunch of great Merino wool hoodies out there (trust us, it’s one of our most popular articles), the one we ranked #1 almost two years ago is still at the top of the list – the Minus33 Kodiak Hoodie.

The last time we reviewed this hoodie, it was 100% Merino wool, but recently, Minus33 has updated its fiber formula to include a touch of spandex for added stretch and recovery. I like this addition, as it makes it more useful as a mid-layer in subzero conditions or just an outer layer for daily winter wear.

It’s one thing to ‘market’ the Kodiak Fleece as a ‘warm hoodie,’ but Minus33 has done the testing – albeit rather extreme – to prove their claims. This hoodie’s been used during expeditions in the Arctic, Antarctic, and nearly every latitude (and altitude) in between. It’s just that warm!

So, if you don’t need a full-fledged Merino wool jacket, perhaps this Minus33 Kodiak Expedition hoodie is more your speed. The brushed interior is super soft, the hood drapes magnificently, and you’ll be warm. Ah yes, ever-so warm.

Best Merino Wool Vest For Winter

Icebreaker ZoneKnit™ Insulated Vest

Icebreaker ZoneKnit Vest

Pros: Fantastic warmth-to-weight ratio | Reinforced shoulder panels | Technical performance features

Cons: Zipper issues | Uber expensive (especially for a vest)

Perhaps you don’t need a Merino wool jacket, and a vest may better suit your needs? Merino wool is an excellent vest material, as its low-bulk warmth insulates your core while letting your body breathe. I’ve written extensively about the best Merino wool vests, but if you’re looking for serious, functional winter warmth, the Icebreaker ZoneKnit™ Insulated Vest is the best.

This vest is made to withstand the toughest of conditions. Icebreaker’s unique ZoneKnit™ body-mapping technology regulates your body temperature during high-intensity activities. That way, whether skiing, snow-shoeing, or just jogging around the neighborhood, the quilted wool front will keep your core at the optimal performance temperature. You won’t overheat, and you won’t freeze. Now, that’s a piece of Merino wool gear you can count on!

Yet, warmth is nothing without function, and this vest has technical features that winter warriors love. The two-way zip – sometimes tricky to handle – helps improve ventilation and function as a layering piece. Moreover, the double-layer standing collar keeps out any drafts. Even the shoulder panels are reinforced to withstand the wear and tear of backpack straps!

I know you’re probably here for a jacket – and there are many good ones to come – but if all you need is a little extra warmth around the core, Icebreaker has you covered with the ZoneKnit™ vest. With three pockets and engineered performance, it may be too hard to resist! But, if you look at the price tag – which is priced correctly based on its quality – you may find it a little easier to resist.

Warmest Merino Wool Jacket

Duckworth WoolCloud Full Zip Jacket

Duckworth WoolCloud Full Zip Jacket

Pros: Ultimate winter outer layer | Maintains warmth & shape, even when wet | Sustainable design & material

Cons: Isn’t as ‘puffy‘ as you may hope | Limited availability

If you’ve seen our reviews before, you know we love Duckworth gear. Unlike Australian Merino wool, Duckworth sources their wool from Helle Rambouillet sheep – a close cousin of the Merino – from their ranch in Dillon, MT. The Rocky Mountain climate makes the wool more rugged and warm but just as soft. And when you stuff that wool inside a jacket as insulation, well, you have the WoolCloud Full Zip Jacket, the warmest Merino wool jacket on this list!

The secret to the coat’s warmth is the insulation. It’s Duckworth’s homegrown Merino wool batting. The scraps and noils from their own Helle Rambouillet Merino Sheep are used as insulation in a water-resistant nylon shell. And, unlike down or synthetics, wool maintains its temperature-regulating properties even when wet. So, blizzard, sleet, hail, snow, rain, you name it; the WoolCloud jacket rises above it!

While it’s not as puffy as your traditional puffers, this jacket is just as warm. You don’t have to worry about the elements, as the WoolCloud jacket does all the heavy lifting. It’s a popular item and is often out of stock, so if you find your color and size, you might want to snatch it before it’s gone!

Most Stylish Merino Wool Jacket

WeatherWool All-Around Jacket

WeatherWool All-Around Jacket

Pros: Versatile, professional style | High-quality material | Functional ‘everyday’ features

Cons: May be on back order| Really, really expensive

If you live a more professional lifestyle, jumping from meetings to meet-ups, you need a solid coat that can tag along for the ride. And the WeatherWool All-Around jacket is that coat. The full-weight Merino wool jacquard knit will provide dozens of degrees (up to fifty) of warmth.

And that’s not just me, the Merino guy, saying that. WeatherWool has extensively tested this jacket in every winter condition you can think of, even if you fall in a lake. Seriously, this jacket can withstand a winter beating!

Anyway, I ranked it ‘Most Stylish’ not for its weather-resistant properties but for, of course, its style! The jacket has four interior zipper pockets for your phone, wallet, keys, and sunglasses. On the outside, front cargo pockets can store your hat and gloves while you warm your hands in the front pouches instead. Moreover, you can get the perfect fit using the adjustable wrist cuffs and waist cinch cord. And look at it; you can definitely pull off that look! It truly is the all-around jacket!

However, this level of comfort, warmth, and craftsmanship comes at a price. Like, a huge price. It’s the most expensive Merino wool jacket on our list. However, it’s always on backorder, so you know it’s popular. I’d say, knowing WeatherWool, that you’ll get every penny out of it. But hey, you’ll never know until you try it!

Best Merino Wool Jacket For Travel

Ibex Wool Aire Hoodie

Ibex Wool Aire Hoodie Various Colors

Pros: Ultralight warmth | Packable (& stuffable) | Will replace all your worn out puffies

Cons: Zipper quality | Waistline fit

Whether traveling abroad or out on the go, an ultralight puffer is a must-have. And unlike synthetics or down that lose their loft and warmth when they get wet, Merino wool doesn’t! So, no matter the travel conditions, a Merino wool puffer will be there with you. And the best there is – in my not-so-expert opinion – is the Ibex Wool Aire Hoodie.

We’ve had good experiences with Ibex Gear, and this puffer is no different. Its 20-Denier nylon shell is wind and water-resistant, while 80-gram Merino wool insulation keeps you toasty. Moreover, it’s ultralight at only 10-12 ounces (depending on sizing) and packs down to less than a water bottle. That way, you’ll be ready when Mother Nature has other plans.

But this isn’t just some emergency layer; the Ibex Wool Aire Hoodie is a perfect travel companion. The slim fit and scuba hood keep the Merino wool insulation close to your skin, and the loft is low enough for layering overtop. There is even an elasticized waistline and sleeve cuffs for a more stay-put fit. Although, I do wish there were a drawcord around the hem instead of the elastic. Between traveling on planes, trains, boats, and more, a cinch cord always works best at staving off unwanted drafts.

Honestly, I’d be surprised if this Ibex Wool Aire Hoodie doesn’t replace all your worn-out, beat-up puffers. You get ultimate warmth for just a few more ounces, even if it gets wet! Plus, with such a fresh style – six unique patterns in all – there’s bound to be one you can rock whether you’re on the road or not!

Best Everyday Merino Wool Jacket

Wool & Prince Ponte Jacket

Wool & Prince Ponte Knit Jacket Black Marl

Pros: Casual or business casual style | Engineered fabric durability | Large usable pockets

Cons: Warmer options available | Sleeves & hem may be too long for some

It’s casual. It’s professional. It’s everything. And it’s Merino. The Wool & Prince Ponte Jacket is an excellent addition to your everyday wardrobe as a versatile winter layer. Throw it on if the thermostat is busted, wear it under a puffy, or just toss it on for a quick trip to the store. Don’t worry about a bag either, as these pockets are huge and, as Wool & Prince claims: “will fit your ginormous phone.”

And if you’ve worn Wool & Prince clothing before, you’ll understand this jacket has some high-quality, highly-engineered fabric. The double-knit Ponte material – consisting of a blend of Merino wool, nylon, and spandex – creates a solid yet stretchy material. It offers all the warmth properties of Merino wool with an additional level of durability. So it can handle the bumps and bruises of daily life!

However, some users have reported the sleeve and hem length may be too long. So, if you’re on the shorter side like myself, you may be out of luck. Still, it’s best to consult the sizing charts before ruling it out.

Overall, the Wool & Prince Ponte Jacket is an outstanding everyday choice for warmth and style in the winter. Its low-bulk fit makes it a fantastic mid-layer around the office, yet it’s still warm enough to get you across the frigid grocery store parking lot. And, with five standard colors – the popular ‘Black Marl’ is my favorite – there’s definitely one that matches your everyday style!

Best Merino Wool Jacket For Running

Smartwool Smartloft Jacket

Smartwool Men's Smartloft Jacket

Pros: Low-bulk, targeted warmth | Wind-resistant | Great for layering

Cons: Minimal versatility for price| Updated design (untested)

If you’re a four-season runner pushing through the cold winter months, you’ll need gear that helps you go the extra mile. And, as with all Smartwool gear, this Smartwool Jacket will keep you operating at your best, no matter the weather report. The wind-resistant nylon shell keeps the elements out while the targeted wool insulation regulates your core temperature. And all from a reputable brand.

However, this version of the Smartwool Loft jacket remains untested, as it has a brand-new, updated design. While some users have found the design updates less than desired, Smartwool’s newer versions fit me better. It’s a more performance, athletic fit. In the case of this Smartwool jacket, the ‘regular‘ fit is relatively low-bulk, so you can layer something overtop if you want to incorporate it into your daily rotation.

Still, I wouldn’t recommend it as your sole coat for daily wear. Think of it like your taking-out-the-dogs jacket or quiet-December-jog coat. It’s lightweight and warm as long as you’re moving. It has all the pockets you need for a daily coat, but I think there are more versatile options.

Anyway, I can’t say much more since I haven’t gotten my hands on the jacket yet, but knowing Smartwool products, they probably knocked it out of the park again. If you do end up testing it, let us know! We’re always looking for feedback from the flock!

Best Merino Wool Hunting Jacket

Big Bill Merino Wool Hunting Jacket

Pros: Affordable for the level of quality | Big & Tall sizing | Functional features

Cons: Not as soft as you may expect | Dry-clean only

Big Bill has a big Merino Wool Coat for all the hunters. This thing is everything you need to maintain your focus in the backcountry. The 18-oz Merino wool blend is strong and durable, so you won’t scratch or tear the fabric on the brush from fresh game trails. And the best part: it’s warm. Like, really warm.

The style is excellent for both sedentary hunting and when you’re stalking a herd, as the heavyweight, durable Merino wool blend will keep you comfortable, and the relaxed fit allows for extra layering if need be. So, on those cold, still mornings up in the tree stand, you’ll be calm, warm, and collected for when you finally get the opportunity.

Although it’s not the softest wool in the flock, this jacket is smooth compared to its synthetic competitors. And the higher-micron wool is more robust than finer fibers, so you get a much sturdier, more rugged material ready for a late November morning hunt.

On the flip side, since the “finest” fibers aren’t used, this Big Bill Merino wool jacket becomes exceptionally affordable. Trust the Merino guy when I say you don’t often see this level of quality at this price tag. People love this coat for its warmth, style, and functionality. So, if you’re looking for a new Merino wool hunting jacket to help you punch that tag this season, consider Big Bill, and you’ll save big. Catchy, right?

Best Jacket For Cold-Weather Expeditions

Ortovox Merino Fleece Grid Hooded Jacket

Ortovox Merino Wool Fleece Grid Hooded Jacket

Pros: Technical fabric design | High-quality, sustainable material | Low-bulky fit for layering

Cons: Minimal versatility | Thinner than you may expect

I’m not super into mountaineering (although I’ve climbed a few 14ers myself), but I do not know that bad things can happen if you don’t trust your gear above the tree line. Luckily, this is precisely when Merino wool works its magic. It will regulate your microclimate, letting out the sweat from pumping up the switchbacks and protecting you from chilly gusts as you scramble toward the summit. The best Merino wool jacket for all alpine adventures is the Ortovox Merino Fleece Grid Jacket.

And, as this is advertised as an ‘alpine’ jacket, you may expect it to be thick and rugged. However, the Fleece Grid jacket is super lightweight and thinner than expected. It’s best used as part of a low-bulk layering system, and the fit promotes this. Although, this Merino wool jacket does look a little strange away from the mountains. There are two usable front slash pockets, which can be utilized for daily wear, but the style is much ‘outdoors’ than ‘around town.’

Still, if you’re interested, a couple versions of this jacket are floating around. The one mentioned above has a hood, but non-hooded options are also available on Ortovox. And with many unique patterns and color options, the next time you summit, you’ll do so in style wearing Ortovox.

Best ‘Jacket’ For The Holidays

Dale of Norway Hovden Sweater

Pros: High-quality craftsmanship | Timeless Nordic patterns | Designed for winter athletes

Cons: Sizing issues | Expensive for a sweater

Okay, I get it; it’s not really a Merino wool jacket, but more of a Merino wool sweater. But this Dale of Norway Hovden sweater performs just as well as any of the coats on our list. It has enough warmth to be worn as a standalone piece for all those holiday get-togethers. And since you’ll probably be wearing the sweater for the party, you can avoid all those odors from the designated coat room. It always smells weird there.

And how could you go wrong with a traditional Nordic sweater? The Scandinavians have been the leaders in outdoor winter style for centuries, and this Hovden sweater is no different. The classic eight-petal rose pattern (three distinct options) is bound to spice up any bland party. And, since it’s 100% Merino wool, you’ll stay calm and comfortable, even if the arguments start to get heated at the dinner table.

Still, this isn’t just your basic Merino wool sweater. The Hovden is the contemporary version of Dale of Norway’s classic Vail sweater, designed for winter athletes. So basically, you get a high-performance athletic top in the form of a sweater. It’s a win-win!

So, if you’re looking for a simple quarter-zip pullover instead of a jacket, consider the Nordic design of the Hovden sweater. It’s a little pricey for a sweater, but with a unique design, first-class material, and performance meant for athletes, you won’t be disappointed. Dale of Norway has been around since 1897 for a reason; they’re obviously doing something right!

Final Note: Men’s Merino Wool Jackets & Outerwear

Jackets, puffers, hoodies, oh my!

Merino wool’s wide manufacturing range and unique natural properties make it an excellent choice for winter outerwear. Many of these jackets have a low-bulk fit for layering, while others use Merino wool as ultralight, ultra-warm insulation. These outer layers truly showcase Merino wool’s versatility as a fabric.

Although Merino wool is not a cure-all fabric. There is the good, and there is the bad. It’s up to you to decide if it works best for you. And at Merino Wool Gear, we’re here to aid you in your decision.

So, if you want to learn more about Merino wool jackets – or any other fantastic Merino wool clothing – poke around our site or follow us on Instagram. Feel

A good dress should make me feel like I’m wearing nothing. It shouldn’t feel heavy, tight, itchy, poky, rough, or cause any discomfort. Luckily, Merino wool fibers are superfine, creating a luxuriously soft next-to-skin feel.

So, all the Merino wool dresses you see today will ‘feel‘ good. Although, with different knit designs, wool quality, and design features, make sure you ‘feel‘ good about your decision.

Fit

Do you want a dress that caresses your curves? Maybe one with a loose, flowing drape tickles your fancy? Just remember: the dress fit should fit your body type.

Fortunately, most brands offer a variety (varying hem lengths, necklines, and more) so you can find your perfect fit.

Fashion

Merino wool is an up-and-coming force in the fashion world. Its sustainability and ease of manufacturing make it a blank, eco-friendly canvas for clothing designers to showcase their expertise.

But the fashion may not be your fashion.

Get more in touch with your personal style. Are you looking for classic beauty or bad-b* tch energy? Maybe both! It’s your pick; you’re the best fashion expert you know.

Still, to ensure you’re getting your money’s worth, figure out how the dress works in your life. Imagine how, when, and where you’d wear it. And, if you’re a fashionista, think about how you can accessorize with belts, shoes, bags, jackets, and more!

We don’t want you spending hundreds of dollars on a Merino wool dress to have it hang in the closet all year!

Best Merino Wool Dress For Work

Wool& Brooklyn Wrap Dress

Wool& Brooklyn Wrap Dress

Pros: Reversible neckline | Excellent color variety | Longer length available

Cons: Fabric may sag with improper care | Sizing inconsistencies

Conquer the workday with style and comfort in the Wool& Brooklyn Wrap Dress. On Monday, you can wear it as a classic wrap dress, and on Tuesday, spin around the dress and wear it as a boat neck. It has a modest and professional style, which I love. Plus, you can dress it casually with a jacket or leggings on the weekends. It’s just that versatile!

Moreover, this dress is super comfy. The beautifully crafted design provides airflow, and the fabric is super soft. The extra-fine, 17.5-micron Merino wool fibers feel wonderful when draped against your skin. The 180-gsm fabric weight is light enough for a summer’s day and thick enough to combat the office air conditioning. The blended material is solid and durable, but only if you care for it properly. If you don’t, your brand-new – and pretty expensive – dress will sag like a bag of rocks after a few washes. Just launder it properly, and you’ll be fine.

And since Wool& knows every woman has a unique style & shape, they offer tons of variety with this Merino wool dress. You can choose a regular-length dress or a longer hem, adding 3″ of coverage. Moreover, a dozen color options are available, ranging from a bright Aegean Teal to a soft Vintage Blue. They all are elegant, natural tones bound to match your aesthetic. To ensure the fit matches the same, consult the size charts before ordering.

Overall, this Brooklyn Wrap Dress is a must-have for the office. Wear it forward or backward, dress it up or down, and get through your workday in style and comfort. Head over to Wool& below and grab one before your size sells out!

Best Merino Dress For Travel

Unbound Merino Travel Dress

Unbound Merino Travel Dress Black

Pros: My go-to dress on-the-go | Soft, elegant fabric | Side hem split

Cons: Availability (hot item) | Armhole depth

When you’re always on the move, you need a dress that boosts adventure, not hinders it. And the Unbound Merino Travel Dress is unmatched for globe trotters and weekend warriors alike. I fell in love with this dress while giving it a comprehensive review, and it has since become my go-to on-the-go dress. The lightweight, stretchy fabric is among the highest-quality, most comfortable materials I’ve ever worn!

Forget about the comfort; this dress is so chic & stylish, I’d be wearing it even if it wasn’t Merino wool! I have an athletic, petite frame, and it drapes nicely on my body. Moreover, the side split is fashionable and functional, offering more mobility than a tighter-fitting design. Although, the only design change I would make would be slightly smaller arm holes. You can see my bra from the side, depending on my body position. So, I usually opt for nipple covers with this dress.

And just like the rest of the Unbound Merino’s women’s collection, this dress has unique fabric features that travelers adore. For one, this dress is super packable and wrinkle-resistant (to a point), so you can pack less and do more. You can wear it every day for a week, and you don’t have to wash it! Plus, with temperature regulation properties, you can wear it on the beach, strolling around the city, or eating local cuisine.

Finally, if you’re looking for a chic, versatile Merino wool dress for your next vacation, look no further than the Unbound Merino Travel Dress. But act fast because although new colors have recently become available, this dress is a hot item. So, grab your size before it sells out!

Best Dress For Going Out

Babaton Aesthetica Dress

Babaton Aesthetica Dress Heather Birch

Pros: Three-season style | Uber-soft half-cardigan knit construction | Relatively affordable

Cons: Delicate (must launder with extreme care) | May need to size down for slimmer fit

If you’re looking for an elegant, timeless dress for grabbing a bite to eat or hitting the town, check out this Babaton Aesthetica Dress. The half-cardigan knit offers a stylish, sleek design. It’s excellent for three-season wear, as I’m not too fond of mocknecks in the summer. Although, no matter which time of year you wear this Merino wool dress, you will look good. Seriously, you have no choice; the dress does all the work.

One great thing about this dress is the unique variety of color options. Babaton frankly deserves more credit for their natural, earth-tone selections. The Heather Birch and Constant Camel are my favorites, but all seven are stylish.

And although I love the classic design and midi length, it only works with some body types. The standard fit may be too free-flowing and relaxed for some, so you should size down if you want a tighter fit. Don’t worry; the vertically ribbed knit stretches in all directions.

So, with the Aesthetica dress rich in color, feel, and style, you must be rich to afford it, right? Actually, no; it surprised me, too! This full-knit, stylish dress is just the same price – if not lower – than the others. The only caveat is that you must put more energy into cleaning and maintenance, as the fabric is delicate. Still, when you look in the mirror the first time you slip on this Merino wool dress, it will all be worth the effort.

Best Merino Wool Dress For Weddings

Smitten Merino Ava Dress

Smitten Merino Ava Dress Blue

Pros: Timeless design | Relaxed, flowing drape | Handcrafted uniqueness

Cons: Expensive | Limited size availability

If you’re looking for a statement piece, a Merino wool dress that makes you say, “I look good and feel good,” the Ava Dress from Smitten Merino is an excellent option. Its elegant, flowing design makes it our favorite Merino wool dress for any formal event, especially weddings. If you want to make an even bigger statement, choose the white optionI’m sure the bride will love it.

And who could blame her for loving your white Merino wool dress on her special day? You look fantastic at this fictional wedding. Merino’s natural stretch and the pleaded waistline will hide imperfections as you ‘take it back now, y’all.‘ And the will-they-won’t-they pairing of the deep v-neck and elbow-length sleeves will have you standing out in all those wedding albums.

Anyway, as you can imagine, this Merino wool dress is pricey. What else would you expect from a high-quality, high-fashion, one-of-a-kind piece? Each dress is handcrafted, making each one unique. That may not always be a great thing, as sometimes minor flaws are to be expected. Still, you’d be paying the same price if you put it against a high-end designer dress. But with the Ava Dress, you get the comfort and performance of Merino. Head to Smitten Merino today to see if your size and color are available!

Best Merino Wool Dress For Daily Use

Icebreaker Merino Granary Dress

Icebreaker Merino Granary Dress Olive

Pros: Flowing, effortless construction | Ultralight, breathable feel | Blank fashion canvas

Cons: No pockets | Boxy cut, not for everyone

Do you know those days you’re unsure whether you will go outside? You may get some fresh veggies at the farmers market, or you could rot in bed all day like a vegetable. If you’re wearing the Icebreaker Merino Granary Dress, you’ll be ready for either.

And as with all Icebreaker gear, the Granary dress is constructed with the highest quality Merino wool. The smooth, ultralight fabric is breathable and comfy but keeps you toasty around the house.

Still, it’s hard to classify this as a Merino dress; it’s more of a boxy, extended tee with a couple of dress features, like a curved hem and side splits. Although, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The simple, minimalist design opens up a world of options. I can complement this these with chunky sneakers, sandals, and accessories. It’s truly a blank canvas for fashion lovers like myself.

However, the Icebreaker Granary Dress is a lounge shirt at heart. So, it’s unfortunate that there are no pockets. Who needs pockets when you’re ‘doom scrolling‘ on Reels all day?! Scroll on over to Icebreaker while you’re at it!

Best Merino Wool Dress For Motherhood

Wool& Rowena Swing Dress

Wool& Rowena Swing Dress Green

Pros: Daily dress for daily comfort (100 days, actually) | Hides imperfections | Incredible color selection

Cons: Shape may not hold as expected | Pockets are too shallow

Whether you’re a seasoned soccer mom, slingshotting kids around town, or a first-time mom-to-be, one thing being a mother has taught me: your kids will break you. So, you might as well be comfy as they make you question your life choices—that’s where the Wool& Rowena Swing Dress shines. That’s right; whether you’re playing with your toddler at the park or yelling at him to stop eating the woodchips, this is the Merino wool dress for you.

Jokes aside, the Rowena dress is sweeping the nation, regardless of your ‘mom’ status. Wool& is so confident in their product that they’ll give you a $100 gift card for wearing the dress for 100 days straight. And thousands of women have already taken the 100-Day Dress Challenge and succeeded! Would you be up for the task?

The real reason this Rowena swing dress is becoming so popular is not because of some social media contest but because it’s a fabulous dress. It’s fitted at the chest and shoulder with a classic A-line drape, coming to rest just above the knee (longer lengths available). The lightweight, wool-nylon material regulates your body’s microclimate, so you’ll stay cool and comfortable. And for most moms whose lives are anything but cool or comfortable, the little things can make a world of difference.

Overall, the Wool& Rowena Swing dress is a functional, good-looking dress that works. It’s tested and approved by thousands of happy customers. And, with over a dozen unique colors and patterns, there’s bound to be a shade that matches your style. Get one, wear it 100 days, and you’ll understand what the hype is all about.

Best Merino Wool Dress For Spring

Smartwool Active Tank Dress

Smartwool Active Tank Dress

Pros: Sporty, athleisure look | Engineered, breathable fabric | Drop-in hand pockets

Cons: Fit may vary depending on body shape | May be too short for some

When the snow melts and the flowers bloom, it’s time to get back outside. From picnics in the park to walks in the woods to mimosas on the patio, spring is the season to enjoy the sunshine you forgot about for three months. Why not enjoy the rays in a Merino wool dress?! And, if you’re planning on spending this spring on the move, the Smartwool Active Tank Dress should be your top choice.

This athleisure Merino wool dress uses a blended Merino-Nylon lining, offering a soft next-to-skin feel. Although, the outer material is a synthetic blend with no Merino! The lack of wool on the exterior makes the fabric more durable and less prone to tearing. Yet, with the soft Merino lining, you still get all of wool’s beneficial natural properties.

Moreover, this Active Tank Dress has unique features that set it apart from the crowd. I particularly like the ‘peekaboo’ back opening, as it allows plenty of ventilation. However, the best feature has to be the pockets. Yes, a sporty Merino wool dress with pockets! Shallow, yes, but pockets nonetheless. Considering their longstanding reputation in the industry, I wouldn’t expect anything less from Smartwool.

So, if you’re interested in upping your athleisure wardrobe this spring, try this Smartwool Active Tank Dress. You can pair it with sandals for a Sunday brunch or throw on a pair of boyshorts and sneakers for an afternoon hike. Whichever style you choose, keep it light and simple. Spring is a time for a fresh start, so you should do it in this fresh Merino wool dress.

Best Merino Wool Dress For the Beach

Woolx Lexie Dress & Cover-up

Woolx Lexie Merino wool Dress & Cover-Up

Pros: Basic, no-frills design | Quick-drying, breathable | Perfect for post-beach margaritas

Cons: Only one color is available | Fit inconsistencies

Merino wool is an excellent option at the beach! Not only is it moisture-wicking & quick-drying, but it’s also UV-resistant. So, it’s no surprise that the Woolx Lexie Dress & Cover-Up is a popular beachgoer option. After a day in the water, I can throw it overtop a swimsuit for my customary post-beach frozen margarita. Wait, that’s not a thing?

Still, this dress is versatile enough to squeeze into your weekly wardrobe even when you’re not tan and tipsy. You can wear it around town or do anything; it is the dealer’s choice. It’s a casual, versatile piece ready to take on the day. Although, the hem length is too revealing for my liking. It’s good for a basic cover-up, but other options are available if you’re someone like me who prefers more coverage.

And, just as we’ve said before about Woolx, they have some of the highest-quality Merino wool gear we’ve tried. So, even if you’re interested in this dress, it’s worth giving Woolx a shot. I remain a satisfied customer, and I’m sure you will be, too! If not, frozen margaritas on me.

Best Merino Wool Dress For Fall

Ridge Merino Hyde Dress

Ridge Merino Hyde Dress Navy

Pros: Stylish outdoor design | Super warm terry material | Thumbholes & zippered hand pockets

Cons: Not fit for all body types | Low inventory

When the leaves change color, it’s time to break out the Ridge Merino Hyde Dress. It’s the perfect dress for fall. The 275-gsm, 100% Merino wool terry fabric is soft and toasty, begging to be around a campfire. It’s the pumpkin spice of Merino wool dresses – but the real stuff, not that garbage from Starbucks.

Even in near-freezing temperatures, you’ll have thumbholes and zippered pockets for your hands. It may not be much, but when it’s early November, and your Uber driver has been 5-minutes away for the last 15 minutes, it can make a difference.

The style is perfect for the fall months but suitable for four-season use. Its natural outdoor vibe makes it ideal for van lifers and local explorers. And Ridge Merino, based out of Mammoth Lakes, knows something about the outdoors. We’ve fallen in love with them over the years as they have an outstanding price-to-quality ratio.

So, head to Ridge Merino below and see if the Hyde Dress is the right Merino wool dress for you!

Best Merino Wool Dress For Special Events

Wolford Merino Rib Dress

Wolford Merino Wool Ribbed Dress Black

Pros: Hugs curves spectacularly | Elegant, classic style | Unique wide-ribbed design

Cons: Most expensive dress overall | Not 100% Merino wool

Work. It. Girl. You’ll look hot as sh*t in this Wolford Merino rib dress. The tight fit accentuates your curves nicely, and you’ll look the baddest b*tch at the party.

The unique wide-ribbed design and high neck make this an excellent choice for special events in the colder months. Just throw on a pair of Merino Jacquard Tights and slay queen.

Although, this dress is expensive. Like, super expensive. For reference, you can buy about five other Merino wool dresses for the same price. Still, the quality is 1000% worth it. I wish there were more Merino wool in the fabric, but the high-class cotton is just as soft and luxurious.

So, if you want to turn some heads the next time you’re at a social gathering, consider the Wolford Merino Rib Dress. With six stylish colors to match your preferences, you have no excuse not to look good in this dress!

Final Note On The Best Merino Wool Dresses

Dress them up, dress them down. Accessorize, glamorize, and leave them all mesmerized. Knock them all dead with a Merino wool dress. Trust the girl who wears them always: they look – and feel – f***ng amazing.

So, if you want a new Merino wool dress this season, consider the top ten picks I mentioned. I sifted through the junk, tested the best, and gave you the needed info! Just remember the ‘Four F’s‘ so you don’t get ‘F’ed‘ by knockoff brands.

Some guys think they have everything, while others want everything, but neither has everything. Because I’d bet they don’t have a soft, plush, cozy, odor-resistant, natural pair of Merino wool joggers.

Okay, that’s a stretch, but if you’re a guy who loves mixing comfort and style, you really should own a pair of Merino wool joggers. Merino’s natural properties regulate your temperature, keeping you cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s not. It’s the magic of Merino!

But this ‘magic‘ isn’t always very magical. Merino wool gear can be hard to shop for, requires more maintenance, and varies significantly from brand to brand.

And that’s where we come in. At Merino Wool Gear, we filter out the fluff and give you the best. With years of experience, we know a thing or two about Merino.

Today, I’ll review eight of my favorite Merino wool joggers and sweatpants for guys like me who have everything (or at least think they do)! But before I give you my top picks, I’ll provide a brief buying guide so you can make well-informed decisions. And, if you’re just here for the best Merino wool joggers, navigate with the ‘Jump Menu‘ below.

How To Choose The Right Merino Wool Joggers For You

Our goal at Merino Wool Gear is to provide you with the latest, greatest, and up-to-date-est information in the world of Merino wool. But it’s not for us (we already love Merino); it’s for you!

These buying guides aim to avoid the hassle of returns and disappointments since we already sifted through the crap for you. We give you the best options, but it’s your place to decide which works for you. So, with a hand-picked pool of the best Merino wool gear and the insider knowledge below, you can find your ideal clothing.

For these Merino wool joggers, I’ll focus on four main buying criteria: comfortfunctionstyle, and everyone’s favorite: price. Let’s dig deeper into each one!

If Merino wool is anything, it’s comfortable. The superfine wool fibers are less than a third the diameter of human hair, so wearing a pair of Merino wool joggers feels like your legs are wrapped in a cloud.

Although, as you can imagine, comfort means different things to different people. I like a heavier, brushed interior for a plush feel, but others may prefer a breathable, lightweight knit for the gym. Each jogger has its own unique combination of comfort features. Here are some common ones to look for:

Choose whichever comfort features work best for you, and find the pair of Merino wool joggers! Okay, it’s not that simple, but you get the point: determining your desired comfort features will make you feel much more comfortable buying a pair of pants.

As much as I would love you to redo your entire wardrobe with Merino wool, please don’t. You should understand how you will use each gear piece before buying. If it’s not functional for your life, then it’s not worth purchasing.

That being said, many of these Merino wool joggers serve a specific function. Some may be your go-to dog-walking sweats, while others may be your I-barely-ever-jog joggers. Jokes aside, if it’s comfortable and fulfills its purpose, it’s worth exploring further.

Okay, so you found a cozy, functional pair of Merino wool joggers; how do they look on you? I will always say “darn good,” but I’m not the judge here. What’s your jogger style? Do you prefer a tapered athletic look or more of a classic, relaxed fit? What the heck do you really want?

Three styles of Merino wool joggers and sweatpants

Remember that many of these Merino wool brands have fit and style variations within each collection, so poke around each store to ensure you get the style that suits you.

Also, style and fashion change, so if it’s too trendy or gadgety, give it a pass. However, if you are the man who has everything, you’ll want to be on top of the fashion world. And Merino wool is working its way up the ranks. So, you should hop on the train before you get left behind!

Finally, you got your perfect pair of Merino wool joggers: they feel good, work well, and look sexy AFBut holy sh*t, the price tag!

Merino wool can be expensive; it’s one of its few downsidesDo you know how much my Merino wool budget is monthly?! I have no regrets, but my bank account has suffered the consequences.

Fortunately, after years of writing about Merino wool, I realized it’s worth every penny. I’ve had Merino joggers I’ve worn hundreds of times, but they don’t look a day over 30. I got triple my money’s worth with those!

For my eight picks of Merino wool joggers, you’ll typically see values between $60-$200, but each pair is worth the price. You get what you pay for, and despite an expensive price tag, these joggers & sweatpants have insane ‘lifetime value.’

Best All-Around Merino Wool Joggers

Ibex Tranquil Jogger

Ibex Tranquil Joggers Deep Ocean

Pros: Warm, cozy comfort | Top-notch wool-cotton blend | Minimalist design with technical features

Cons: I wish there were more wool | Style not for everyone

With superb comfort, the Ibex Tranquil Joggers take the top spot on our list. The interior is smooth, odor-resistant Merino wool (26% of the material composition), while the outer face is cotton. You get one luxuriously soft pair of joggers when these two fabrics are blended. Even Ibex, a long-standing Merino wool brand, claims this fabric “could be the best blend of natural fibers yet.” They will genuinely make your legs feel tranquil (hence the name).

Still, comfort is nothing without style. The fit is loose and relaxed, the fabric flowing freely as you move. The gusseted construction improves overall mobility, too. And, with a thick elastic waistband, drawstring, and ankle cuffs, you get all-day support and an elegant drape you don’t always see with sweatpants.

Moreover, as Ibex designed these joggers as the ultimate travel companion, they come packed with functional features. The half-welt hand pockets are sewn in with fabric that folds over the top of the pocket opening. This creates a finished look and helps to keep the pocket from sagging. A coil-zippered back pocket offers minimal bulk, keeping you comfy even on long international flights. And, with a versatile 230 gsm (midweight) fabric, these Merino wool joggers will keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Now, that’s travel gear at its finest.

Overall, these joggers provide you with comfort, mobility, style, and so much more. You can wear them to the gym, to the store, on the plane, or on the couch. We could all use tranquility in our lives, so why not start with the Ibex Tranquil Joggers? Head over to Ibex below to learn more!

Best Merino Wool Joggers For Lounging

Icebreaker Shifter II Straight Pants

Icebreaker Shifter II Straight Pants

Pros: The best ‘my-day-is-over’ pants | Unique fabric blend | Merino-lined seams & pockets

Cons: ‘Dad style’ not for everyone | Limited color options

After a long day of work, there’s no better feeling than getting home and throwing on your favorite pair of sweats. And the Icebreaker Shifter II Straight Pants will be your new favorite pair of lounge pants. The relaxed fit makes them perfect for lounging around the house. You can binge, snack, slack, swipe, and procrastinate comfortably. When you put on these Merino wool joggers, you’ll never want to take them off.

What sets these Shifter pants – and all Icebreaker gear – apart is the expert level of craftsmanship. With high-quality, sustainable materials like TENCEL™ and Merino, the Eucraform terry fabric feels plush and smooth as it cradles your lower half. And, while Icebreaker doesn’t explicitly state the fabric weight, these sweats feel much heavier (28.34 oz.) than other pairs. So, you get a cozy, warm pair of “before and after bottoms.”

I particularly enjoy the non-tapered construction, or ‘Dad Sweats.’ It’s got a flowing, unique style that’s very much in line with much of the streetwear fashion today. Although, I completely understand if you’re not ready for ‘Dad Fashion‘ quite yet. Still, who cares if you look like a dweeb when your legs are draped in a cushy, warm material.

So, when your day is over – work has been worked, gym has been gymed, and life has been lifed – the Icebreaker Shifter II Pants will be waiting for you. The coziness will wipe away the stress from the outside. Just slip them on and lounge away into the abyss. You deserve it.

Best Merino Wool Joggers For Running

Smartwool Active Fleece Tech Pant

Smartwool Active Fleece Tech Pant Blue

Pros: Excellent stretch & recovery | Technical features for runners | Cozy brushed interior

Cons: Expensive | Untested (new product)

I’ve got to be honest with you: I still need to get my hands on these Smartwool Active Fleece Tech Pants. But I sure am excited too soon. Just look at how unique these Merino wool joggers are compared to some on this list. They just look perfect for four-season running. And if my previous Smartwool reviews have taught me anything, they perform how they look.

But still, these pants are new and remain untested. Plus, at such a hefty price tag, you may not want to risk it; I completely understand. But I’m here to tell you: these Merino wool joggers are worth the risk. Just look at some of these features:

  • Brushed Merino interior for a soft feel
  • Adjustable waist and legs for fine-tuned fit
  • Synthetic additions for strength & stretch
  • Warm, breathable material
  • Zippered hand pockets
  • Reflective elements

I’ve been doing this for a few years and have not seen better Merino wool joggers for running. These Smartwool Active Fleece Tech Pants are everything you need to conquer the winter elements, one step at a time. If you’re interested, grab a pair and let us know how they performed. We always love community feedback!

Best Merino Wool Joggers For Daily Use

Ridge Merino Hyde Jogger

Ridge Merino Hyde Joggers Black

Pros: All-day comfort | Effortless style & construction | Warm yet breathable

Cons: Pocket zipper strings may fall off | Limited color availability

With a simple, minimalist design and Uber-comfy material, these Hyde joggers from Ridge Merino are the best for everyday wear. Why, you may ask? Well, because I wear my pair of Hyde Joggers every day. That’s right, these are my go-to around-town, at-home, and everywhere-in-between pants.

I mainly wear them because they’re stylish enough for any outfit. I can pair them with a Merino wool tank for the gym or a hoodie for a brisk autumn day. Moreover, the tapered leg design is trendy and goes with all my wardrobe, which is truthful about all of Ridge Merino’s gear.

But not only do these Hyde joggers look good, but they feel good. The 100% Merino wool Terry knit material is soft and plush, cradling and draping in all the right places. And with extra comfort features like flatlock seams and hand warmer pockets, your legs will feel peaceful no matter how chaotic your day is.

So, if you’re just looking for a pair of Merino wool joggers – a solid, versatile, and comfy pair of sweats – look no further than these Ridge Merino Hyde Joggers. Take it from the guy wearing a pair as he writes this: these 100% Merino Wool joggers are 100% worth it.

Best Merino Wool Joggers For Travel

Unbound Merino MerinoTencel Sweatpants

Unbound Merino Men's MerinoTencel Sweatpants Charcoal

Pros: Cloud-like comfort | Versatile style | Highly sustainable fabric

Cons: Limited availability (super popular) | Shallow pockets

Merino wool joggers are excellent travel companions. They keep you comfortable during uncomfortable flights, and since Merino wool is odor-proof, you won’t have to wash them on the road. That way, you can carry less and explore more! Our favorite pair of travel joggers comes from one of our favorite travel brands: Unbound Merino.

Initially known for their minimalist travel tee, Unbound Merino has expanded their collection to all the gear travelers love, including these sweats. They have a slim, tapered construction, making them versatile enough to work with nearly any outfit in your carry-on. Moreover, there are zippered back pockets and a hidden zipper pocket in the front to secure your belongings. Although, I wish all the pockets were a bit deeper.

As with all of Unbound Merino’s creations, these travel joggers use high-quality, sustainable materials. The blend of Tencel and Merino, which have eco-friendly properties, provides a soft, luxurious feel. Moreover, the 2% spandex creates a little extra stretch, that is, if you have enough leg room. You’ll be in a cloud of comfort as you zip through the clouds.

These Unbound Merino sweats are a must-have for serious travelers, especially the ‘one bag‘ crowd. And since they’re already so popular, it’s best to grab your size before they sell out!

Most Stylish Merino Wool Joggers

Wool & Prince Interlock Knit Jogger

Wool and Prince Interlock Knit Jogger Black

Pros: Flattering design | Engineered durability | French terry option available

Cons: Pockets may sag over time | Minimal color options

If you want to up your style game but still want that ‘lazy Sunday morning’ comfort, Wool & Prince has you covered with their Interlock Knit joggers. The style and design are the most ‘formal-looking’ of all the Merino wool joggers I’ve seen, making them perfect for activewear, streetwear, travel, and more!

And this level of expertise and craftsmanship isn’t exclusive to these joggers. Wool & Prince creates the market’s most stylish, professional Merino wool workwear. They look nicer than half my work pants, especially the French Terry option.

Although, style is nothing without comfort. Luckily, the wool-nylon blend manages moisture and regulates temperature despite a slightly heavier fabric weight (300 gsm). Moreover, the fibers are durable, as the nylon filament is coiled around the Merino, giving you the best of both worlds.

Overall, these are the nicest-looking sweats you’ll own – Merino wool or not. Unfortunately, there are minimal color options as of now. But watch out as Wool & Prince often releases new color options each season.

Most Versatile Merino Wool Joggers

Woolly Longhaul Jogger

Woolly Longhaul Joggers Blue

Pros: Go anywhere, do anything type of pant| Flexible material | Comparatively affordable

Cons: Long-term durability concerns | Sizing inconsistencies

When you just need a versatile, functional pair of pants, the Woolly Longhaul Joggers are an excellent choice. Made from a blend of Merino wool, cotton, and elastic, these joggers are incredibly comfortable. The stretch and recovery of the material make these pants a solid addition to any activewear wardrobe. Moreover, the modern, low-bulk fit makes them an excellent layering option on the slopes.

Although, some users have noted that these joggers aren’t the most durable. While this is the first time I have seen this issue with these pants or other Woolly gear, this low wear-life is likely due to improper care. So, if you follow the correct laundry routine, you won’t have any issues.

So, whether you’re lounging around the house, finishing the last set at the gym, running errands around town, or just about any other activity, the Woolly Longhaul Joggers will be there for the longhaul. And at such an affordable price – often discounted even further – they may be the most valuable pair of Merino wool joggers on this list!

Warmest Merino Wool Joggers

Duckworth Powder Pant

Duckworth Powder Pant Olive Green

Pros: Absolute coziness | Boot cut length for waders & ski boots | 100% sourced in USA

Cons: Expensive | Not the most stylish joggers

If you’re venturing into the winter wilderness, you may need more than a thin Merino wool base layer. In subzero conditions, you need a thicker, breathable mid-layer under your snow pants, and the Duckworth Powder Pants are the perfect fit. There won’t be any bunching near your ankles, as the shorter boot-cut length is ideal for ski boots and waders.

The secret to the Powder Pants’ warmth is in the wool itself. Unlike other Australian Merino brands, Duckworth sources their wool from their ranch in Dillon, MT. These sheep roam the Rocky Mountains, a much harsher climate than their cousins ‘Down Under.’ So, their wool is much more rugged and warm, and that’s precisely what you get with these pants.

Still, you don’t have to wait for a blizzard to wear these sweats. The shorter length makes them great for lounging by the fire with a cozy, warm pair of Merino wool socks. You should cover yourself in a Merino wool blanket, too! That is absolute coziness.

What else do you want me to say? These Powder Pants are warm and cozy. The warmest and the coziest. And if you value comfort, you’re going to want a pair!

The search for the perfect pair of slippers is an elusive one. Sure, you may have found a pair you like, but a few months later, a hole in the toe or a worn-out sole gives you pain as you mosey around the house.

Slippers are meant to protect my feet and regulate their temperature. They keep your feet dry and at the same temperature as the rest of your body. It’s like the best pair of slippers are the ones that you don’t even notice.

And, the best slippers – in my not-so-expert opinion – are always made with Merino wool!

So, being Merino wool gear, we decided to round up eight of our favorite Merino wool slippers so you can prep for the chillier parts of the year. From modern house shoes to fuzzy slides, there’s bound to be a style for everyone!

Merino Wool Slippers: What Should You Consider?

As I just said, finding your perfect pair of Merino wool slippers can be challenging. And, since some house shoes can be expensive, you’ll want to know what you get when you buy.

So, I’ve broken down some key categories to consider while shopping for the comfiest, coziest, best slippers for your feet! There are four categories: usage, comfort, warmth, and style. Let’s take a quick look at each!

Various Merino Wool Slipper Styles Side-by-side

I know it’s a simple question, but you should always ask yourself: “How will I use these slippers?” Sometimes, we see a wild feature or a sleek design and get caught up in the hype.

But remember why you needed slippers in the first place, whatever that reason may be, because it’s different for everyone. Are you going to wear them both inside and outside? What about on the couch? Would a simple pair of socks work instead?

My advice is to ignore the hype and focus on what you need for your daily life. And when you do that, things fall into place.

I like my Merino wool slippers to be supportive around the foot but still leave room to breathe. They should feel soft but firm on my feet, like a reassuring hug from a loved one. They shouldn’t feel like someone strapped cement blocks to my feet. It’s my home. I am entitled to comfort!

Luckily, Merino wool is the leader in the comfort world. With superfine fibers, your feet will feel like they’re embraced by a cloud. And, since Merino wool is breathable and odor-resistant, your slippers should stay dry and stink-free after multiple wears.

Three Merino Sheep

Treading barefoot in an early 20th-century house can feel like walking on an ice skating rink. I may be bundled up top, but if my pretty footsies are skin-to-skin against the vinyl, then I will be cold.

But, no matter how warm my slippers feel at first, they must be in the game for the long haul, meaning keep my nasty feet dry, too. If my feet sweat because of the excessive heat retention, I will get cold again.

And, just like Merino sheep who have to withstand harsh conditions, Merino wool slippers offer ultimate warmth by trapping warm air and managing your microclimate’s humidity. It’s just another remarkable property of Merino wool – thanks a lot, sheep!

Various Styles of Greys Outdoor Wool Slippers

For me, slippers should slip, end of story. I don’t like the style with heels because then I have to bend over and actually put them on like shoes, and when I take them off, I have to do the same. I’d rather kick off my slippers when I’m done with them, let them sit, and know they will be slipped back on when their time comes.

But my ankles get cold, so I switch to slipper boots during the winter months.

In your case, you may like clogs. You may like boots. Heck, you even want slipper socks. Who knows? You, that’s who! By discovering your style and needs, choosing your perfect Merino wool slipper will be much easier.

Editor’s Choice: Best Merino Wool Slippers

Kyrgies Tengries Walkabouts

Kyrgies Tengries Walkabout Merino Wool Slippers

Pros: Fantastic style & versatility | Unique slipper design | Indoor-Outdoor use

Cons: Sizing discrepancies | Keep uppers away from water

Traditional Merino wool slippers are famous for their warmth, versatility, and sheer comfort. You have to imagine that people have been making slippers with natural materials like wool felt for centuries, so the process is fine-tuned. One slipper that meshes this traditional craft with a modern design is the Kyrgies Tengries Walkabouts. Handcrafted by artisans in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (hence the brand, Kyrgies), these Merino wool slippers are my favorite!

The style reminds me of cozy cabin slippers. You can easily slip them on and off with the unique closure, and the design truly hugs your foot. Since these slippers are the “walkabout” version as opposed to the original ones, there is a rubber crepe-style sole for indoor-outdoor use. So, you get the extra grip from the sole texture, and the rubber also provides water resistance.

Despite the vulcanized rubber soles, you’ll still want to avoid getting the Merino wool uppers wet and dirty. As these are hand-felted, they could fall apart if you don’t correctly care about them. However, if you follow the essential cleaning tips, these slippers will last years!

To sum up, the Kyrgies Tengries Walkabout is a fantastic, comfy, versatile Merino wool slipper. No wonder they’re my favorite! Kyrgies offers this style for both men & women in plenty of satisfying colors, so be sure to check them out today!

Runner-Up: Best Merino Wool Slippers

Nootkas Astoria Wool House Slippers

Nootkas Astoria Wool House Shoes Womens Heather Gray

Pros: Classic slipper design | High-density cushioning | All-natural materials

Cons: Not great for narrow feet | May need to break in

If you’re looking for a solid, reliable pair of wool slides, look no further than the Nootka Astoria Slippers. Slip them on when it’s cold, and kick them off before bed. Nootkas handcrafts these slippers in Nepal using 100% mulesing-free New Zealand Merino wool. They have traveled worldwide to bring you ultimate comfort at home!

While these may look like any other pair of slippers, they have additional features to improve your slipper-wearing experience. For one, the padded wool midsole offers extra cushioning and support. Next, the suede sole performs well on carpet and wood floors (indoor use only) and ages well over time. Moreover, the zero-drop heel design gives you better posture and alignment, preventing any nagging injuries from coming back. These slippers genuinely do have it all!

Still, the slide-style slipper may only work for some. You may opt for a different style if you have narrow feet or cold ankles (yes, it’s a real thing). But, if you’re sold on these Nootkas Astoria slides – which have separate designs for men & women – be sure to head over to Nootkas to learn more!

Most Comfortable Merino Wool Slippers

Baabuk Mel Slippers

Baabuk Mel Slippers Bourdeaux

Pros: Expertly designed | Extra insole padding | Unique color options

Cons: Susceptible to wear & tear | Must clean with care

Another Merino wool slipper, another cloud of Merino, the Baabuk Mel Slippers are the most comfortable pair on this list! Like the Astoria slippers, Baabuk uses 100% New Zealand Merino wool handfelted in Nepal. Although, they are designed in Switzerland specifically to weather the snowy winters of the Alps. And if these slippers will keep you warm & comfy in a snowed-in cabin, they sure as heck will be warm & cozy at home.

Still, comfort is just as much about style since when you look good, you feel good! And, since these Baabuk Mel slippers come in 9 vibrant colors – including bright pink, bottle green, & classic vanilla – you can make a fashion statement around the house.

While all these factors – including the padded wool mid soles and latex outsoles – contribute to the comfort level, the amount of cleaning does not. As these wool slippers are handcrafted, they are more susceptible to wear and tear, so you should clean them often. Although this cleaning process can be meticulous, it will become a part of your daily routine with the proper Merino wool care products.

Finally, size them right if you’re interested in these Mel slippers. The molded heel cup may irritate if it is too big or small. And, while the low-heel height is best, Baabuk offers different height slippers (Kanga – slides, Yves – Boot). So, whatever style suits you, Baabuk has a slipper for you!

Most Stylish Merino Wool Slippers

Giesswein Vent Slippers

Pros: Replaceable footbed | Extra cushioning | Cinching cord

Cons: May wear down with outdoor use | Potential manufacturing defects

While traditional Merino wool slippers have unique vibes, I tend toward modern slipper designs. Something about them has a more versatile, functional style. My everyday go-to slippers, the ones I don’t mind showing off to house guests, are the Giesswein Vent slippers.

The one style feature I love is the cinch cord around the ankle. I can tighten these shoes on super chilly days when walking the dog or loosen them up in couch-potato mode. It’s a function you don’t usually get with other wool slippers, and I’m here for it.

And forget about style; these slippers were designed with high-performing features. As the “Vent” name suggests, they are super breathable. That way – combined with the waterproof rubber sole – you can wear it for indoor-outdoor use, and your feet will stay dry. Moreover, since there’s an exchangeable footbed and 18-mm heel blast for impact reduction, they’ll take a long time to wear out. Still, if you’re really beating them up, you will decrease their wear life.

Stylish, comfortable, and functional, the Giesswein Vents are an excellent choice for anyone looking to add fashion to their at-home look. I own a pair and trust the guy who eats, sleeps, and breathes Merino wool – you should get a pair, too!

Best Merino Wool Slipper For Outdoor Use

Greys Wool Outdoor Slipper

Greys Wool Outdoor Slipper Boot Navy

Pros: Fantastic style & versatility | Easy to slip on & off | Two other heights available

Cons: Too popular (often sold out) | Sizing discrepancies

If you’re constantly in and out of the house, gardening, picking up the mail, and walking the dog, you could use a solid pair of weatherproof house shoes. My favorite is the Grey’s Wool Outdoor Boot. Not only are they comfy and versatile, but they look so good your neighbors will be jealous.

And while I call these slippers, they are more ‘shoe‘ than ‘slipper.’ The waterproof, ultra-grippy rubber sole works just as well as a sneaker outsole. However, weather protection extends to the toe box with these slippers. So you can avoid stubbed toes. That’s a unique design feature if I’ve ever seen one!

My favorite style is the boot, as the pull-tab is easy to use, and I prefer a little extra warmth around my ankles. However, Greys offers these shoes in two lower heel heights if that’s more your speed: mule & slipper.

Although these are super popular, they take time to come by. So, if you see a size, color, and style that suits you, get them before they sell out!

Best Indoor-Only Merino Wool Slippers

Smartwool Hudson Trail Slippers

Smartwool Hudson Trail Merino Wool Slippers Blue

Pros: Comfy boot design | Rolltop for double-layer warmth | Blended fabric for durability

Cons: Only one color | Limited availability

If you’re a slippers-on-the-couch type, these cozy Hudson Trail slippers are a must-have. The roll-top boot design – in combination with the wool shell & liner – creates a warm, dry environment for your feet. And since they are a flexible knit, you can curl up on the couch any way you want!

When you get up to grab the whole carton of ice cream from the freezer, the thick padded outsole will cushion you all the way to the kitchen. A subtle feature of these Merino wool slippers that I love is the non-slip grip. It’s these little additions that make Smartwool gear so desirable.

Unfortunately, the Hudson Trail slippers are popular; many sizes and color options are out of stock. Hopefully, Smartwool releases more options this holiday season because I’ve seen my wife eyeing them!

Finally, these aren’t pure wool uppers. Instead, it’s wool-synthetic in a 9:1 ratio. The extra addition of synthetic material increases the slipper’s durability, so it doesn’t unravel on every crappy doorframe. It’s another minor feature that makes the Smartwool Hudson Trail Slippers one of our favorites. Get yours today!

Best Merino Wool Slippers For Travel

Bombas Gripper Slipper

Bombas Men's Gripper Slipper

Pros: Super cozy foot feel | Relatively affordable | Comes with travel bag

Cons: Not as ‘grippy’ as expected | May wear with heavy use

If you’re always on the go, it’s hard to pack a pair of felted slippers in your carry-on. So, the Bombas Gripper Slipper is one of the best options for comfort away from home.

This half-sock, half-slipper, all-amazing footwear is ultra-versatile. The interior has a soft, brushed lining and cushioned footbed, maximizing next-to-skin comfort. And, as these socks come with their own travel bag, it’s much easier to take them on the road, whether for work, family, or fun!

As the name suggests, these are a “gripper” slipper. But the grips aren’t as grippy as I’d expect. Even Bombas notes on their site that “they’re not magic” and “practice good coordination out there.” Or, you could be like me and barely ever leave the couch. You can’t slip if you don’t move!

Anyways, you’ve got to give these Bombas Gripper Slippers a try. They are a unique product that comes in several colors and will provide home-like comfort far away from home. And at such an affordable price, your feet wouldn’t forgive you if you passed them up!

Best Merino Wool Boot Slippers

Glerups Model G Boot

Pros: Top-notch warmth | Minimalist design | Multiple colors available

Cons: May initially shed | Potential manufacturing defects

My ankles get cold, like all the time. So, during the winter, I opt for a high-top Merino wool slipper like this Glerups Model G Boot. The minimalist, traditional slipper design is excellent for any situation. Heck, these could even be your slippers for the office!

And yes, these Merino wool slipper boots are expensive (one of the downsides of Merino wool). But there’s a reason: the high-quality materials. Glerups uses 100% pure natural wool in the upper, hugging the contours of your foot. In addition, the calf-skin soles (apparently tanned with vegetable oil) will give these slippers years of durability. It’s a classic design crafted with some of the world’s best materials, and you’re paying for it. That’s how it works!

Unfortunately, if you add these boots to your closet, you may have to deal with some initial shedding. This is common with felted uppers and actually increases the strength of the fabric in the long run. Still, it can be a site for sore eyes when you see your pricey new slippers shedding on the floor! But that’ll stop after a few wears, and everything should be good to go!

Final Note About Merino Wool Slippers

Putting on my Merino wool slippers at the end of the day signifies that I’m done; the day is over. I can turn my brain off and relax, knowing that I’m in the protection of my home.

Because, in essence, that’s what slippers are: protection for my feet. Protection from stepping on errant legos. Protection from an outdated heating system. Pure, comfy protection for my hard-working feet.

And that’s why Merino wool slippers are the best; they protect my feet and make them feel amazing!

As I walked through the aisles of REI preparing for some Christmas shopping back in 2017, I came across a display of buffs. Merino wool buffs, to be exact.

I heard some of the buzz about Merino wool on backpacking forums – and what Survivor fan hasn’t heard of Buff – but it was the first time I knowingly encountered it at the store. So, I decided to splurge and got a lightweight dark gray Merino wool buff as an early Christmas present to myself!

And that’s how it all started. Six years later, we are the leading Merino wool clothing reviewers worldwide!

None of that would have happened without that Merino wool buff!

More than half a decade later, my weathered Buff is still kicking. It has bounced around Europe, climbed to the top of mountains, and trekked across glaciers. And, as you can imagine, it has the battle scars to prove it.

But even today, it’s become a vital clothing accessory, whether I wear it as a headband, beanie, gaiter, or sleep mask. I keep it in my bag at all times!

So, reviewing the Merino wool buff – my Merino wool buff – almost a decade in the making would only be proper. I’ll go over the good and the bad, then we’ll answer whether or not you should add a Merino wool Buff to your wardrobe.

Who knows? It might even change your life; It sure as hell changed mine.

The Proof

Would I divulge our origin story without proof?! Of course not! Here’s a snapshot from that fateful in-store REI purchase six years ago.

Screenshot of Merino wool buff purchase from REI

Still, that was all just the beginning. Six years later, I’ve taken this Merino wool buff on some once-in-a-lifetime adventures. And I have the pictures to prove it!

Man wearing a Merino wool buff on a glacier

As you can see, I rocked this buff on a winter trip to Iceland. It served as my daily scarf/neckwear. And, when we trekked on Vatnajokull glacier, exploring the ice caves and glacial streams, I used it more as a face mask. It was my first wilderness experience using the Buff, and it didn’t disappoint.

Man sitting on top of Half Dome in Yosemite

A few years later, my wife and I took a trip to Yosemite, hiking to the top of Half-dome (we got lucky in the permit lottery). And you guessed it, the same Merino wool buff wrapped around my wrist the whole time, from struggling up the cables to nearly running into a bear!

Since this hiking trip was during the summer, I didn’t use the buff for warmth but for moisture management. It was a glorified sweat rag, so that’s why I wore it around my wrist. Although I did use it as a gaiter during a few brisk mornings in Yosemite Valley.

The buff still held its own years after getting beat up on a glacier and drenched in sweat on Yosemite. It wasn’t ratty (yet) and still looked great as a beanie. My wife even decided to use it on our trip to Portugal!

From traveling worldwide to everyday life, my Merino wool buff has been with me on every adventure. And six years later, as I take on the new experiences of writing and fatherhood, the same Merino wool buff – My Merino Wool Buff – is still going strong.

The Good

Everything. Everything is good about this buff. It’s the best piece of Merino wool gear you’ll ever find. And I’ll argue with any who says otherwise.

But you don’t want my biased buff affection. You want some actual helpful information!

So, from industry-leading versatility and warmth to packability and utility, let’s dive deeper into the four main reasons why I love my Merino wool buff so much!

12 Different Ways To Wear A Buff

Buffs are made for functionality. They replace a scarf, beanie, balaclava, and any type of headwear you plan on wearing. And if you no longer have hair like I do (I’ve changed a lot in six years), having versatile headwear is a must.

In total, there are about a dozen ways to wear a buff in total. Anyone who tells you anything else is just modifying one of the other ways. Don’t listen to them. Listen to me, the guy with an unhealthy infatuation with his Buff.

  • Classic Gaiter: Always ready for adventure. Quickly transforms into a face mask in cold conditions.
  • Beanie/Hat/Cap: Double-layered insulation, excellent for keeping my bald head warm.
  • Sleep Mask: Get some quality shuteye by blocking out the light during the day. Add noise-canceling for the ultimate napping experience.

My buff is the lightweight version (125 gsm), but I use it in all weather conditions. I wear it hiking in the summer to help keep the sun off my neck and wipe away sweat. And, I wear it as a gaiter in the winter to keep my face and neck warm.

Winter and Summer pictures of couple

This buff has such fantastic temperature regulation properties because of the Merino wool! The process is simple, really: sheep live outside, and their coats need to protect them from the sun, rain, wind, and snow. When that wool becomes a Buff, it has the same natural properties.

Check out our comprehensive benefits guide for a deeper, more scientific explanation of Merino wool’s natural properties.

One rarely mentioned benefit of the Merino wool buff is its packability. It is so lightweight (1.7 oz) and convenient that it will be barely detectable in your bag. You can stuff it in the side of your backpack, tuck it away in your suitcase, or even squeeze it in your pocket. And whenever you need it, it’s ready to go!

A folded Merino wool buff on a bed between two dogs

Plus, if you properly care for your buff, it will stay fresh for years. You can wear it casually or save it for mountain expeditions. It will be an essential piece of gear for all your adventures – just as it’s been with mine.

And, if you want to adventure in style, you should get a couple buffs in different colors. My dark gray one is best for versatility, but there are nearly 20 options, so you can choose the color buff that best works with your wardrobe.

My buff is just that – a buff.

It’s sometimes a gaiter or a balaclava; other times, it’s stuffed away in my day bag. But it’s always there.

It always serves its purpose, whatever the purpose may be that day.

I’m such a big fan of this reliability. In six years, there hasn’t been a situation or adventure where I thought, “Maybe I shouldn’t take my buff.” That’s because it’s the most useful, versatile, functional, and reliable clothing accessory on the market.

The Bad

Honestly, I can’t say anything wrong about this buff. Yes, it’s experienced a few ‘bad days’ – which I’ll go over below – but to call these things “Bad” is a gross misrepresentation.

Still, it’s my website, and I will do it anyway!

Alright, one of the downsides of this buff is its durability. At 125 gsm, it’s the same thickness as ~1.5 pieces of paper! That’s super thin! And as you can imagine, I’ve accumulated some wear and tear over six years of adventure.

In all, there are three observable imperfections. The first was after about two years when I cut the tag off improperly. So, really only two that weren’t my fault.

Merino wool buff holes and tears

But here’s the thing, these imperfections are barely noticeable. And I’d say they give the buff a bit of character. The memories from my travels and adventures – which I call battle scars – give my buff its authenticity. And after over half a decade, I would expect any piece of heavily-worn Merino wool gear to show its wear.

Despite these battle scars, I still wear the same buff. I’m wearing it now as I’m typing! And I intend to keep wearing it, holes in all, until every last thread comes undone.

What do you want me to say?! I absolutely love this thing. I mean, it’s just a tube of Merino wool fabric. Buff can’t really improve anything on it. It’s not like they are going to add extra features anytime soon.

It’s not like they can change the manufacturing process to improve it. The fabric is ideal, the versatility is there, and there are tons of different color options.

The lightweight Merino wool buff is immaculate, and they shouldn’t change a thing.

Should You Get A Merino Wool Buff?

Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle? The obvious answer to both questions is ‘yes.’

You should get a Merino wool buff for yourself, one for your brother, one for your mom, and even one for your neighbor. That’s not a joke; these buffs make excellent gifts since they are affordable and practical.

Now, my buff baby is the lightweight Merino wool version, which is best for daily use. Even in frigid conditions, it works well. Still, if you plan on using the buff mainly for arctic expeditions like heli-skiing in the backcountry or shoveling your driveway, you want to get the midweight version instead.

I get it if you’re still on the fence about getting a Merino wool buff. Maybe that whole story about it literally changing my life wasn’t enough. So, to make the decision easier for you, here are my top five reasons why you should – and shouldn’t – own a Merino wool buff.

  • It will get you at least six years of use.
  • It replaces a scarf, beanie, and balaclava.
  • You can take it anywhere.
  • It’s super easy to care for.
  • There’s nothing like a midday nap with a Merino wool buff as a sleep mask.

  • You care nothing about comfort, warmth, or functionality.
  • You’re afraid of sheep.
  • You are a sheep and already have your own wool.
  • You’re a nudist, so you don’t need any clothing at all.
  • You’re a member of the Illuminati and must adhere to a strict dress code.

Final Note About My Merino Wool Buff

That’s all that’s left to say. Hopefully, you’ll believe me when I say that the Merino wool buff changed my life. Merino wool gear wouldn’t be here without it.

Stories aside, this is my most versatile piece of Merino wool gear. To this day, it’s always in my daily bag. I never leave home without it. And you shouldn’t either!

At Merino wool gear, we explore, discover, and the best Merino wool clothing on the market. Today, we’ll focus on a functional and fashionable shirt: the henley. So, if you’re looking for a comfy, stylish Merino wool henley to add to your wardrobe, you’ve come to the right place!

This article will review what to look for in a Merino wool henley because it’s more complex than it seems. Moreover, we’ll use these various buying considerations – and our expert knowledge of Merino wool gear – well provide you with five of our favorite Merino henleys.

So whether you’re looking for a basic henley to wear to the office or a more stylish option for weekend wear, there’s bound to be one that fits your style!

What To Look For? Merino Henley Buying Guide

Before getting into our top five henley picks, it’s essential to understand the unique features of Merino wool henley. We’ll go over four main criteria – wool composition, fabric weight, fit & style, and price – so that you can make the best buying decision for you!

Merino wool is a natural fiber known for its softness, breathability, and moisture-wicking properties. It is also naturally odor-resistant, making it an excellent choice for activewear. However, pure Merino wool can be susceptible to snagging and pilling, especially if worn in activities involving a lot of rubbing or friction.

Some brands blend merino wool with synthetic fibers, such as nylon or polyester, to address this. This mixture helps improve the fabric’s strength and durability while retaining the moisture-wicking and odor-resistant properties of Merino wool. For example, Scientists found that a 50/50 wool-nylon blend had a tensile strength of 15000 psi, while a 100% merino wool fabric had a tensile strength of only 250 psi. That means blended Merino fabric is 60 times stronger than pure Merino wool fabric!

  • Choose a henley with at least 75% merino wool.
    • Pure Merino wool does feel softer than blended fabrics
    • Look for Merino wool sourced from ethical and sustainable farms.

It’s important to understand that henleys come in various fabric weights. This measure – often seen in grams per square meter (gsm) – gauges the thickness of the fabric. Ultralight fabrics (<150 gsm) tend to do better in hot weather as they are more breathable, while mid-to-heavyweight materials (225+ gsm) work better as outerwear for milder conditions.

Although, fabric weight isn’t the only factor contributing to temperature regulation. Some of these henleys have a waffle-knit construction that creates warm air pockets, keeping the skin warm. And since they are lightweight, they have an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, perfect for outdoor performance.

If you want to understand better how to layer with which material weight, one of our favorite Merino wool brands, Minus33, has put together an excellent guide on how fabric weight affects layering. Check out the abridged version below, or visit their site to learn more.

Merino Wool Layering Chart From Minus33

    • If you live in a cold climate, choose a henley of at least 200 gsm (or waffle-knit construction).
      • If you live in a warm climate, choose a henley with a fabric weight of 160 gsm or less.
      • Lighter fabrics also make excellent base layers.

Henleys are a tremendous in-between shirt. You get the style and formality of a polo with the performance of a tee. Moreover, that extra bit of ventilation from the placket throws in a touch of personal style.

Some people prefer a relaxed, baggy fit, while others like a slimmer next-to-skin construction. Just be sure to get the fit and style that works for you.

And for gosh sake, get a good color. Not all brands have the same color, but most have the same neutral colors. It’s one of the reasons Merino wool henleys are so versatile!

      • Choose a henley that fits you well and is flattering for your body type.
        • Consider the style of the henley. Crewneck, v-neck, or scoop neck? Long sleeves or short?
        • Choose a slightly oversized size if you plan to wear your henley for top layering.

Some price tags may seem outrageous if you’re new to the Merino world. And that’s a valid concern. It is one of the few disadvantages of Merino wool.

I’m not here to judge a brand’s pricing structure, simply the quality of their clothing. However, if their level of quality falls below their offering price, I’ll be the first one to tell you. And on the flip side, we’ll always tell you about underpriced gear that will get the most bang for your buck.

Although, price is ultimately in the eye of the beholder. So, if you want an out-of-budget henley, wait on it. Brands offer steep holiday deals and up-to-25% discounts for first-time buyers.

Or, you can do what I do and text my wife “gift ideas for future me” every week!

        • Merino henleys can range in price from $50 to $200.
          • Find a henley that fits your budget and your needs.
          • Don’t be afraid to shop around and compare prices.

Editor’s Top Pick: Best Merino Wool Henley

Wool & Prince Long Sleeve Henley

Wool and Prince Long Sleeve Henley Black

Pros: Engineered fabric design | Fantastic Moisture Management | Professional, versatile style

Cons: Some sizing discrepancies | Long sleeves

You’re missing out if you aren’t wearing Wool & Prince clothing. They create some of the highest-quality, most professional Merino wool clothing we’ve tested. And one of our favorite pieces in their collection is the comfy, versatile 78/22 henley.

As noted in the specs, this henley is 78% Merino wool and 22% nylon. And Wool & Prince uses a unique manufacturing technique, wrapping these nylon filaments around a Merino wool core. This synthetic lattice makes the fabric more tear-resistant, maintains its shape for longer, and is less prone to pilling. Ultimately, you get a high-quality, long-lasting, easy-to-launder shirt.

But what I love the most about this henley is its versatility. You can wear it with jeans or chinos for a night out or with shorts bumming around the house. The lightweight (160 gsm) fabric does well managing the moisture of your microclimate. That means you can wear this all four seasons and rarely break a sweat! Still, if you’re looking for more of a cold-weather henley, the Wool & Prince Waffle-Knit Henley might be a slightly better option.

So, if you want to add a versatile, comfy, and stylish piece of gear to your wardrobe, a Wool & Prince Henley is an excellent choice. Click below to head over to Wool & Prince’s site to grab one for yourself!

          Duckworth Polaris Henley Green

Pros: Warmth-to-Weight ratio | Mini waffle-knit construction | Sourced & made in USA

Cons: Limited color options | Expensive

Listen: the Duckworth Polaris Henley will be a game-changer if you’re an outdoorsman. The fabric is lightweight (175 gsm) yet constructed in a mini waffle-knit design. Therefore, warm air is trapped next to your skin, even in freezing temperatures. Now you throw on Merino wool’s temperature regulation properties and get one hard-working, lightweight, warm shirt!

Unlike most Merino wool from Australian sheep, Duckworth sources their wool from sheep (a close cousin of the Merino) at the Helle Ranch in Dillon, MT. This uniqueness gives their clothing a cold-weather advantage as the sheep produce wool that evolved to withstand the ever-changing temperature of the Rocky Mountains.

Moreover, every process involved in manufacturing occurs within America. Even the polyester – added to improve durability – comes from American sources. So, every aspect of your henley is made and stays within the USA, from their farm to your closet.

Still, all of this USA-made comfort and performance comes at a cost. The Duckworth Polaris henley is the most expensive of our picks. However, if you wear it as intended – as a rugged outdoor shirt – it’s 100% worth the price.

Best Merino Wool Henley For Travel

          Proof 72-Hour Merino Henley

Proof 72-Hour Merino Wool Long Sleeve Henley In Light Gray

Pros: Versatile travel layer | Supersoft 16.5-micron fibers | Available in a variety of colors

Cons: Fit discrepancies | Must launder with care

The Proof 72-Hour henley – which also comes in a short-sleeve version – has one feature I’ve grown to love: the snap-button placket. It’s a cleaner, more minimal style. And there are eight neutral, versatile color options; you can match this shirt with nearly any outfit. And when you’re traveling, you can pack fewer clothes and have more adventures!

The fabric is also naturally odor-resistant, so you can wear it multiple days without washing it. That’s where the ‘72-Hour‘ name comes from. And if you’re only taking a quick trip or weekend getaway, you may never have to take it off! Moreover, the 180-gsm, 16.5-micron Merino wool fabric is soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking.

Although when laundry time does eventually come around, treat this henley with care. Some users report the shirt may shrink or pill with improper care. To be safe, avoid the dryer, flat-drying on a towel instead. And if you’re on the road, you can always find the nearest sink, grab a bar of travel soap, and handwash it. Still, rinse thoroughly to avoid chemical residue on the natural wool fibers. For more wool care tips, visit our comprehensive care guide.

The Proof 72-Hour henley is perfect for one-bag travelers, digital nomads, city hoppers, and those who occasionally like to escape it all. Head over to Huckberry to see Proof’s latest Merino wool lineup.

          Best Short-Sleeve Merino Wool Henley

          Woolly Henley Short Sleeve

Woolly Short Sleeve Merino Wool Henley Charcoal

Pros: Our favorite ‘looks-acceptable-in-public’ shirt | Front pocket design | Relatively affordable

Cons: Long-term durability concerns | Sizing discrepancies

A short-sleeve Merino wool henley replaces the ratty old tees you’ve been wearing for years. With one piece of clothing, you get the style of a polo and the versatility of a tee, and you get all the soft, odor-fighting properties of Merino wool. So if you’re looking to replace all you’re going-out-in-public shirts, you’ve got to give this Woolly short sleeve henley some love.

I like the heavier 190 gsm fabric – which Woolly calls “Everyday Weight” – as some lighter henleys can feel too thin. This one has a more versatile weight for indoor spaces. It’s light enough to breathe yet heavy enough to keep you comfortable in inclement weather. And since the pure Merino wool fabric is more delicate than its blended competitors, its thickness contributes to its strength. Although, watch out for potential ‘snag points‘ as wearing a torn shirt in public is never a good look.

Due to the style and fabric weight, the Woolly short sleeve polo is a perfect shirt for daily wear. You can rock it in the park, to the office, or even to the bar. There’s even a front chest pocket. It truthfully is an all-in-one versatile shirt, all at a reasonable price. So, head over to Woolly to see if they have a short sleeve henley in your color!

          Best Budget Merino Wool Henley

          Meriwool Base Layer Henley

Pros: Top-notch price-to-quality ratio | Offset shoulder seams | Multiple colors & patterns available

Cons: Not the most stylish | Works best as under layer

Some of the best Merino wool henleys can be pricey. It’s just the way it is. Well, that is the way it is most of the time. Some brands, like Meriwool, focus on creating high-quality, bare-bones Merino clothing for less. And, of course, they make the least expensive henley on this list!

Still, that’s not to say this henley is of poor quality. Meriwool uses some of the softest, 16.5-micron Merino wool fibers in their fabric. It’s just a simple, versatile henley made of pure Merino wool! That’s why this henley, and much of Meriwool’s collection, have some of the best price-to-quality ratios on the market. They offer high-quality clothing for less, and they’re proud of it.

And sure, this henley may not be the most stylish of our picks, but it gets the job done. It looks OK with jeans or chinos and goes well with almost any footwear (but Merino wool shoes are better, of course). Still, it’s best as a base layer whenever you need extra ventilation. Just throw a jacket over the top for the perfect fall outfit!

Finally, even though this henley costs less, it’s still designed well. Meriwool offsets the shoulder seams from the top to the front, reducing chafing from backpack straps and improving arm mobility. It’s the best-budget Merino wool henley for hikers, backpackers, explorers, and travelers.

So scratch that adventure itch in itch-free comfort with the Meriwool base layer henley!

What To Look For In A Merino Wool Tank Top

Before we get into each tank top, you must understand what to look for, mainly because Merino wool clothing can be tricky. We classify each piece into four categories – composition, weight, style, & features – so you can better gauge which shirt works best for you! Let’s elaborate a bit on each.

          Merino Wool Composition

          Merino Wool Composition

We always think that the more Merino wool in the fabric, the better. However, blending wool with some synthetics does help to add strength and durability. Some brands even incorporate spandex for more stretch and recovery (although Merino wool also has plenty of natural stretch).

When looking through these tanks, determine which activity you’ll use them for. If the fabric might snag or catch, you’ll want to stick with a mixture of Merino wool and synthetics. However, you can’t beat a pure Merino wool tank top for casual everyday wear.

          Fabric Weight

Although Merino wool performs well in all seasons, fabric weight plays a prominent role in its success. Midweight and heavier fabrics (225+ gsm) work better in colder climates, while ultralight and lightweight materials (120-190 gsm) cool you down in warm conditions. Also, your temperature regulation level will be affected by your activity level. The more you work, the lighter the fabric needs to weigh. Check out the graph that better explains how activity level plays a role in temperature control.

Merino Wool Layering Chart From Minus33

As more these Merino wool tanks, we typically see fabric weights on the lighter side. Tops weighing 160-200 gsm are better for travel and everyday wear, while anything <150 gsm is best for moisture management, so high-movement activities or super hot climates. Although, the thinner the material, the more prone to tears. Just be mindful of the fabric while browsing these Merino wool tank tops so you don’t have to return them!

          Fit & Style

Three Different Merino Wool Tank Top Styles

Which do you like better: track tanks or muscle tanks? Do you even know the difference?! While much of the style terminology varies among brands, please don’t get hung up on it. Focus on how the tank top fits (athletic, regular, etc.) and how it might work into your wardrobe. There are dozens of style, design, fit, and color combinations. So, there’s bound to be one that matches your style.

And if there isn’t, don’t worry. Contact us if you’re looking for a specific fit, style, color, etc.; we’re always happy to help you build your Merino wool closet!

          Design Features

Usually, a tank top is just a tank top. Well, not with Merino wool. Brands add small design features throughout the top depending on which activity it’s best designated for. For example, pure Merino wool tanks may have tagless interiors or flatlock seams for comfort. Or if you’re wearing the tank out hiking, you may want offset shoulder seams to prevent strap chafing from your pack.

Merino Wool Tank Top Common Design Features

Look at the image above for some of Merino wool tank tops’ more common design features. Some we’ll discuss today have a few, others none at all. It’s simply about understanding where you’ll wear the tank and determining if the design features – or lack thereof – aid your performance.

Best Overall Merino Wool Tank Top

          Icebreaker Men’s ZoneKnit™ Merino Tank

          60% TENCEL™, 40% Merino Wool | 125 gsm | Regular fit | 2 styles | $$$$

Icebreaker Men's ZoneKnit™ Merino Tank Gray

Pros: Super ultralight & breathable | Top-notch performance features | Affordable with sale

Cons: Limited color options | Size down for next-to-skin fit

When we do these best Merino wool gear reviews, Icebreaker usually breaks into the top three for a good reason; they make some of the most innovative, technical, and stylish Merino wool apparel on the market! And their men’s ZoneKnit Merino Tank is no different. At first glance, it may look like a simple tank, but plenty of extraordinary performance features are hidden among this ordinary facade.

According to Icebreaker, their ZoneKnit™ design has “body mapping technology.” This is meant to regulate your core temperature – no matter the external temperature – so your body can perform optimally. The Cool-Lite™ fabric and back eyelet mesh ventilation allow airflow while wicking moisture away from your body and into the atmosphere. There are even offset shoulder seams, reducing friction and rubbing from backpack straps. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind performance tank top!

Still, there are two ‘cons‘ worth noting if you’re considering this top. For one, the fit isn’t as athletic as you may expect. So, if you want a tight next-to-skin layer, it’s best to size down. And two, this tee has limited size and color availability. Only the gray – and a unique geodetic pattern – are available for now. Perhaps Icebreaker releases more options as they often do when the seasons change. We’ll have to wait and see!

Overall, the Icebreaker ZoneKnit™ Tank is the pinnacle of fabric performance technology all wrapped up in a minimalist design. If you’re interested in getting one, check out the link below or head over to Icebreaker to see the entirety of their tee and tank collection.

          Runner-Up: Best Merino Wool Tank

          Smartwool Men’s Active Ultralite Tank

          53% Merino, 47% TENCEL™ | 150 gsm | Athletic fit | 3 colors | $$$

Smartwool Men's Active Ultralite Tank Orange

Pros: Excellent temperature & moisture management | Only 3 oz. total | Technical elements for running

Cons: Not 100% abrasion resistant | Long hem may be cumbersome to some

Coming in as the runner-up – more for its purpose rather than its rank – is the Smartwool Active Ultralite tank. The material is a nearly 50-50 Merino-TENCEL™ blend, offering the best qualities of each fabric. You get the durability & moisture-wicking properties of the sustainable TENCEL™ and the comfort, temperature regulation, and odor resistance from the Merino wool. You really get the best of both worlds!

And, if you’re a daily runner, Smartwool has all the technical features you’re looking for to achieve your personal best. The ultralight fabric weight & fit are the best for moisture management and ventilation. Moreover, the soft feel of the fabric – in combination with the flatlock seams – help reduce chafing. There’s even a reflective element if you’re a late-night or early-morning jogger. It has everything you need to keep on pushing, day in and day out!

When considering these Merino wool tank tops, understand the Smartwool Active tank top is an excellent choice for those who don’t mind breaking a sweat. It may look just like a simple tank, but there are plenty of performance features for you to keep running along. And that’s all real runners ever want, right? To just keep running along.

Best Merino Wool Tank For The Gym

          Woolly Men’s Track Tank

          100% Merino wool | 150 gsm | Athletic fit | 6 colors | $$

Woolly Mens Merino Track Tank Black

Pros: Simple yet versatile design | Comfort features | Great color selection

Cons: Longterm durability concerns | Arm holes may feel wide for some

When it’s time to hit the gym, a Merino wool tank top makes an excellent training partner. It will help regulate your core temperature so you don’t overheat, and you can get 3-4 wears out of it before washing. That’s because Merino wool is odor-proof! So after a sweaty workout, give it some time to dry, and it should be ready for the next time you hit the gym. And whenever I exercise, one of the essentials of my gym bag is the Woolly track tank.

Editor’s Note: What’s the difference between a Merino wool track tank and a tank top? Well, nothing much except a more athletic fit. And track tanks typically have skinnier shoulder straps which provide a deeper scooped neckline. And if the armholes feel too large, Woolly offers all the different tee and tank top varieties. So, look at their Merino wool tank collection and pick which shirt design works best for you!

The Woolly track tank performs exceptionally well in the gym due to its unique wool-spandex blend, athletic fit, and natural fabric properties. Plus, with the skinny shoulder design, you’ll look great while doing curly in the mirror. Yet just be careful around sharp racks or old machines, as this fabric can catch and tear easily. Luckily, this isn’t as much an issue due to the tighter fit, but still an issue worth noting.

Finally, while we’ve crowned this tank the king of the gym, it can serve you throughout daily life. You can pair it with a light jacket or wear it to a beach party. And with six unique colors to choose from, there’s bound to be one that screams ‘you.’

Best Merino Wool Tank For Travel

          Unbound Merino Tank Top

          100% Merino wool | 165 gsm | Classic fit | 2 colors | $$$$

          Unbound Merino Men's Tank Top

          Pros: High-quality fabric | Quick-drying & packable | Versatile travel layer

Cons: Slightly Expensive | Limited color options

If you’re hopping from city to city, a Merino wool tank top can become an essential piece in your carry-on. Wear it on the beach, run, or under a sweater for warmth. It’s one of the few Swiss army knives of travel clothing. And when it comes to Merino wool travel gear, nobody does it better than Unbound Merino!

Their men’s tank top – and the rest of their travel collection – are a digital nomad’s wet dream. Comfy Merino wool clothing designed with no flashy logos, minimalistic yet publicly-acceptable styles, all in neutral, versatile colors (although this tank only comes in black & charcoal). All of their pieces are well-designed, odor-free, quick-drying, and wrinkle-resistant! The only thing this Unbound Merino tank top won’t do for you is check into your flight.

Still, all this quality and craftsmanship comes at a price. What did you expect? To get it for free?! Unbound Merino is one of the more expensive brands, but rightfully so. Everything I’ve tried from them has turned out to be great gear. I never regretted a penny, and this Merino wool tank top falls in the same boat.

Best Merino Wool Tank For Hiking

Ortovox 120 Fast Tec Mountain Shirt

          85% Merino, 15% Nylon | 120 gsm | Athletic fit | 3 colors | $$$$

Ortovox 120 Fast Tec Mountain Shirt Green

Pros: Ultralight outdoor performance | Unique fabric paneling | Durable corespun material

Cons: Minimal versatility | Limited availability

If you’re an avid outdoor explorer, you may have heard of Ortovox before. Their outdoor gear is among the most technically designed clothing in the industry. And their Fast Tec Mountain shirt is no different. It’s the king of outdoor performance tanks!

And yes, this is the lightest-weight tee on our list. It’s only 120 gsm. That’s about a sheet-and-a-half of paper thick! Yet still, Ortovox takes fabric technology to the next level with the durable nylon core. Moreover, the unique fabric panel design gives aids in breathability. That way, combined, you get strength from synthetic, comfort & temperature regulation from Merino wool, and the ultimate outdoor performance tank from the overall design.

Although, due to the technical design, you may only want to wear this tank while hiking, climbing, or exploring the great outdoors. It looks out of place in daily life. But, if you don’t mind sticking out, be our guest; wear it everywhere you go!

Still, if you are a hardcore climber or spend every free moment in the backcountry, this technical Merino wool tank from Ortovox is worth the bill. You won’t have to worry about chafing, discomfort, or fabric tears. It will not only enhance your performance, but it may give you some peace of mind.

          Best Sleeveless Merino Wool Shirt

          Minus33 Woolverino Sleeveless Tank Top

          84% Merino, 12% Nylon, 4% Spandex | 145 gsm | Regular fit | 2 colors | $$

Minus33 Woolverino Sleeveless Tank Top Light Gray

Pros: Excellent stretch & recovery | Unique technical features | Longterm durability

Cons: Not the most stylish | More of a layering piece

When you need a base layer but sleeves won’t do, Minus33 has you covered with the Woolverino sleeveless tank top. The ultralight (145 gsm) fabric has a bit of spandex, creating a comfortable stretch & recovery. The 17.5-micron Merino wool, combined with the standard fit, feels floaty and airy. Therefore, making it a great base layer for outdoor excursions, no matter the season!

Although, I do view this sleeveless tank as a base layer instead of a standalone layer. It works best under a heavier baselayer to increase your core temperature in more frigid conditions. It’s not the most stylish Merino wool tank we’ve talked about, but it’s not like it’s overly boxy. I could see myself throwing it on at the beach for extra sun protection (Minus33 notes it has a 20 UPF rating). Still, I prefer it as a cold-weather layering option more than any other potential use.

And one of the reasons for this is the technical features Minus33 incorporates into the tank design. The shoulder seams are offset to avoid chafing from backpack straps. Moreover, the tagless interior and flatlock seams prevent potential itching and annoyance, especially if your hiking pack is heavy. While these design features may appear simple at first glance, they show their value with experience.

          Best Value Merino Wool Tanks

          Sheep Run Lightweight Tank Top

          100% Merino wool | 200 gsm | Standard fit | 11 colors | $

Pros: Fantastic price-to-quality ratio | Large color selection | Slightly heavier fabric than other tanks

Cons: Not great for extreme heat | Must launder with special care

As you’ve probably noticed, many of these Merino wool tank tops can be expensive. And as Macklemore once said, “Fifty dollars for a T-shirt, that’s just some ignorant-” you get the rest. But in our case, it’s $50 for a tank top. While the price is one of Merino wool’s disadvantages, some brands focus on making high-quality, affordable clothing, and Sheep Run is one of them. And their lightweight Merino wool tank top has the best price-to-quality ratio on this list.

The 100% superfine Austrian Merino wool fabric is just as soft as the higher-priced brands; it doesn’t have all those extra features, so it’s priced less. And since it’s just a darn comfy and stylish tank, I don’t feel bad spending money on it! That’s why it’s the best-value Merino tank of them all!

Also, I love that the ‘lightweight’ fabric is slightly thicker (200 gsm) than other performance tanks on this list. It’s more on the lighter side of midweight. So, while it may be too hot for peak summer activity, it’s great for everyday wear. And since there are currently 11 color options, you won’t feel handcuffed by the standard black-or-gray choices. If you can’t make up your mind, you can get two, and it will cost you cheaper than some of the other options we’ve discussed today!

Final Note On Merino Wool Tanks

And there you have it, the seven best men’s Merino wool tank tops to keep cool this summer. We covered everything from sleeveless performance tees to laid-back travel tanks and everything in between. Hopefully, you discovered a Merino wool tank top that fits your wardrobe!

We’re back with another Merino wool dress review! This time, we’ll explore the ins and outs of the Unbound Merino Travel Dress.

I’m excited about this review because Unbound Merino has a best-in-class reputation in the men’s Merino clothing industry. However, it wasn’t until recently (May 2022) that they offered women’s clothing.

And girl, was it worth the wait. They now have a wide selection of women’s Merino wool travel clothing; we are all in for it!

If you have seen any previous Merino wool Gear reviews, you know we like to dive deeply into our analysis. I’ll provide you with my ‘Initial Thoughts‘ on the dress, wear in various situations for three days, and even test it out in the laundry! Ultimately, I’ll provide my honest opinion on what I liked and what I think could be improved.

And since this dress is so new, I’ll do my best to provide you with all the information I can. That way, you’ll be able to determine whether or not you should add it to your closet.

Disclosure: Merino Wool Gear DOES NOT sponsor products to maintain our genuineness and authenticity. However, as an Affiliate member, we may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases.

          Initial Thoughts

Opening the package from Unbound Merino was a joy for me. The dress was nicely wrapped in tissue paper labeled with an Unbound Merino sticker and placed in a slim carton box. So, if you want to give this dress as a gift, there’s no additional work!

          Unbound Merino Travel Dress Packaging

When I first touched the dress, I noticed how light and soft the material felt. It’s thin yet durable, and I can tell the Merino wool is top-tier. Moreover, the seam construction is exceptional. All the seams look expertly stitched, and you can see a lot of craftsmanship in the design. The high-quality stitching and fabric give the impression that this dress will last long.

The style itself is straightforward and effortless. It’s simple but in the best way possible. The fit is loose and flowing, so it hides my body imperfections (which I absolutely love). The neckline is a shallow, modest cut that offers a casual yet elegant look. There is even an open seam on the leg which adds volume.

High Quality Seams in Green Merino Wool Dress

My initial concern with the dress design is the armhole depth. I have a petite frame (5’1″, athletic), so my bra peeks through the sides. It won’t necessarily look the same on you, but just something to think about. Moreover, I prefer not to wear a bra. I usually use silicone nipple covers instead. So, this “issue” is not really an issue for me.

Since this is a brand new product, only two colors are available: black and forest green (2023 Update: this dress is now available in three colors: black, caramel, and indigo) . I ordered the forest green, and I’m sure I made the right choice. The color is muted but rich. Moreover, the flowing fit creates deeper shades of green depending on the lighting.

I am delighted with how the dress feels and looks. I can’t wait to see how it holds up during the testing phase!

          Features & Specifications

          Merino Travel Dress Specification Infographic

Here’s the thing: this dress has no super special features, which is why I love it so much! It’s well-made, comfy, and stylish. That’s it. There’s no need for extra bells and whistles with a dress like this!

The only true feature to discuss is the material itself. Unbound Merino uses 18.5-micron Merino wool, which is why the material is so soft. Plus, they blended in small amounts of nylon and spandex to provide extra strength and stretch. Finally, the 180 gsm fabric is lightweight and breezy.

And because of the fabric weight, I’d classify this as a summer dress. It’s not my chicest dress, so I won’t wear it for high-end outings. However, it’s an excellent choice for a walk in a park, gardening, running errands, traveling, or even going to the beach.

          Three-Day Wear Test

Initial impressions are one thing, but can the Unbound Merino Travel Dress hold up to the rigors of daily life?

That’s where the Three-Day Wear test comes in. I’ll chronicle how this dress is held up in various situations so you can better understand how it may fit into your closet.

So, let’s put this dress to the test.

Initial impressions are one thing, but can the Unbound Merino Travel Dress hold up to the rigors of daily life?
That’s where the Three-Day Wear test comes in. I’ll detail how this dress is held up in various situations – with some different outfits – so you can better understand how it may fit into your closet.
So, let’s put this dress to the test.

          Day One

To start my test, I decided to try this dress while running errands around town. I paired it with simple white sneakers for a more casual look. At first, I thought it looked a little too ‘teenage-ish‘ for a mom. However, there is just a minimalistic elegance to this outfit that’s more mature than not. It’s not fancy, but it tells others, ‘ I take care of myself.

Women in a Green Wool Dress

Throughout the day, I barely noticed the dress. The cut is quite deep, but there wasn’t anything slipping out. Moreover, the side hem split made it easier to walk around. It was a lovely day overall, and there’s no doubt the dress contributed to that!

          Day Two

After a successful day-one test, it’s time to spice this dress up a bit! I opted for the gold chain belt, which looked great and helped to showcase my curves. The slides were also a nice touch and fit the style of the dress well. Moreover, the unique side hem split of the dress brought the entire look together!

Woman in green dress and gold belt

I decided to head out for brunch on a sunny day. The dress worked out perfectly, allowing for plenty of airflow and ventilation. However, I started to sweat after the sun was directly overhead. It could be because I had just finished my third mimosa, too. Who knows?

          Day Three

It was a little chilly during the last day of my testing, but nothing that this dress couldn’t handle! I wore one of my favorite leather jackets, high-top black sneakers, and a simple crossbody bag (which completed the look). I was comfortable in temperatures down to 50 °F (10 °C) for short periods. And while most of this warmth came from the jacket, I could feel how the Merino wool aided insulation. It’s just one of its many benefits!

Woman in black jacket and green dress

After three days of testing, this Unbound Merino Travel Dress passed with flying colors. It’s an excellent three-season dress that can be dressed down, up, or anywhere between. And the best part about it is that the dress doesn’t smell after three busy days!

And that is why I love Merino wool gear!

          Laundry Test

Truthfully, this dress doesn’t even have to go into the laundry after three days of wear. I’ve just been laying it flat (it helps with wrinkles) and airing it out. It’s just as fresh as when I opened the package.

Still, testing the fabric, stitching, and durability is essential. Unbound Merino provides a card with care instructions, or you can check out their site. It’s pretty simple; you want to avoid harsh chemicals and the dryer. That’s standard with most Merino wool care.

So, after putting it through the laundry, I’m happy to say everything made it out good as new. There wasn’t any shrinkage, loose threads, or pilling, so that’s a win!

          One-Year Later

So, I originally planned on releasing this review a year ago, but while I was testing and writing, it went out of stock. So, instead of releasing it immediately, I decided to wait a year, wearing this dress even more! It made it to birthday parties, garage sales, the zoo, and more. My favorite time I wore the dress was relaxing at the beach with a sun hat to match.

From my twelve additional months of testing, I fully support this Unbound Merino Travel Dress. The seams and fabric have held up to multiple washes and can withstand everyday life’s rigors. And when you have a messy toddler, you never know what the day will throw at you!

          Results: What I Liked

After a year of wearing this dress, I can finally give you everything I like. Well, if I told you everything, we might be here for a while. Instead, let’s stick with the three things I liked the most – style, comfort, & affordability – and expand on each.

          It’s My New Go-To Dress!

This is my to-go dress. It’s for days when I don’t know what to wear cause I know I will feel comfortable and look good no matter what. It covers over half of my wardrobe and accessories, so I’m always excited to mix and match! In fact, I wear it around the house and yard so much that I’m afraid my neighbors may call me “that woman in the green dress.

It Feels Like A Second Skin!

I love this fabric. There’s something about it that’s so loose and flowy but also modest. There is always plenty of ventilation, so I rarely sweat. And it barely feels like I’m wearing anything at all!

Pro Tip: For some reason, I love throwing this dress on after a cool shower on a hot day. I know it’s weird, but it feels incredible!

          It’s Actually Affordable!

Okay, okay, I get it. When you first see this dress’s price tag, you may think I’m crazy when I say it’s affordable, but hear me out. Since the design is so universal, the fabric is easy to care for, and the style is timeless, the Unbound Merino Dress replaces 4-5 dresses in your wardrobe. The material is so high-quality that it should stay fresh for years.

So, is this dress affordable in the traditional sense? No. But if you’re fine-tuning your wardrobe and living a simple lifestyle, it’s 100% worth every penny. Check below for this travel dress’s latest price.

          Areas To Improve

Just like life, Merino wool clothing always has its ups and downs. And, with this Unbound Merino dress, while there were far more ups and downs, it’s still important to point out the latter so you can determine whether or not this dress works for you. In my testing experience, I found two areas I hope could improve: color variety & overall availability. Let’s take a close look at each.

          Color Selection

So, when I got this dress in the summer of 2022, there were only two options: olive & black. And since it was a new release then, I understood the narrow selection. However, a year later, there are only three color options: black, caramel, & indigo. Now, that’s not saying these colors aren’t great, but as a chronic shopper, the more color choices, the better!

          Availability

Unfortunately, this dress is popular. So much so that many standard sizes sell out whenever there’s a restock. Luckily, Unbound Merino has an “Email When Available” option, so you don’t have to keep checking back every few weeks. Still, having a broader range of sizes and colors for general stock would be ideal.

Final Note About The Unbound Merino Travel Dress

          Three Unbound Merino Dresses

Well, I hope you liked my complete Unbound Merino Travel Dress review. I tested it out for three days, threw it in the laundry, and wore it on and off for a year. This dress is a unique piece showcasing Merino wool’s versatility, especially in the travel industry. And if I were to give it a grade, it would have to be an A. Let’s hope they release more colors (my vote is for beige) next season so I can get another one!

If you like this dress, check out more of Unbound Merino’s women’s travel collection. They have been in full swing for over a year and seemed to work out the initial kinks. All in all, their offerings are by far the best Merino wool clothing for travel.

There is no such thing as too many summer tops, especially if you live hot and humid climate like I do. While searching for a versatile piece to add to my wardrobe, I came across the Ridge Merino Bralette. It was just what I wanted, so – like any good shopper – I got two of them!

Since I got the bralettes, I thought, why not complete the set with a pair of boy shorts? So, that’s precisely what I did!

And now, after one year of wearing the Ridge Merino Bralette and Boy Shorts (not continually, obviously), I wanted to share some of my thoughts from when I first got them. Then, we’ll fast-forward twelve months later to see if I feel the same. I’ll review what I liked the best about each and some aspects I believe could be improved in the next release.

Disclosure: Merino Wool Gear DOES NOT sponsor products to maintain our genuineness and authenticity. However, as an affiliate member, we may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases.

          Initial Thoughts

I am only 5 feet tall with a slim body type, and I prefer fitted tops to end at my belly button so I can wear them with my high-waisted bottoms. That’s why my choice immediately fell on this bralette, which I got in two colors: olive night and faded rose.

          Two Ridge Merino Bralette Unpackaging

Once I received my bralette, I first noticed how lightweight it was, which I shouldn’t be surprised about because it is one of well known Merino wool’s advantages. Both tops fit me just as expected, not too tight or loose, and felt like a second skin. Much of that is due to the ultralight fabric, which is so soft and breathable.

The bralette has a wide, elastic band at the bottom that sits comfortably on the ribcage without feeling too tight. This allows a snug, supportive fit for the built-in bra. Still, since the fabric is so thin and there are no pockets for padding, I hope my nipple outline doesn’t pop through like I was Jennifer Aniston on Friends. They must have kept it extra cold in that studio, right?

          Ridge Merino Boy Shorts Unpackaging

As for the boy shorts, I have never owned that underwear style before, so I was excited to test them out. They are the same material, style, and color (olive night) as the bralette, which is why I purchased them together in the first place!

The construction of the boy shorts is top-notch, with strong stitching and attention to detail. You can tell a lot of thought and expertise went into the design. They offer plenty of coverage in all the right places while maintaining a close-to-skin profile. So I shouldn’t have trouble wearing them with joggers, jeans, or free-flowing dresses. However, I’ll probably opt for a thong with leggings and hip-hugging dresses.

          One Year Later

Women working on couch wearing a Ridge Merino Bralette

I ordered the bralettes and boy shorts in the summer of 2022. Almost instantly, they became staples in my wardrobe. Despite initially looking for summer tops, I found myself wearing the bralette during each season. I love wearing it under sweaters in the fall and winter. It just feels warm and cozy, especially on windy days. I prefer to layer my tops with an open-front shirt on warm and sunny days. Or if it’s super hot, it works just as well as a standalone piece.

The boy shorts offer great coverage, and I wore them with various outfits. They have a slim profile, so like I mentioned a year ago, I won’t wear them with tight-fitting clothing. Moreover, the leg openings are also well-designed, allowing freedom of movement. The material is light and breathable. Adding spandex provides a stretchy and supportive fit that moves with your body, ensuring no restrictions or discomfort.

Ridge Merino Bralette Comparison Side By Side

For an experiment, I put one of the tops aside and wore only the bralette in olive night color for a couple of months to compare how the material would hold up through wears, washes, and accidents. As you can see, the bralette I wore was slightly more stretched out, but that’s because it molded around my body shape more. And as for the shorts, the material and shape still hold strong even after countless wears and washes. It still sits snug around the leg without being too loose, riding up, or bunching. Both bralettes and the boy shorts wash well and have always held their original color.

All in all, I’m more than satisfied with my purchase. I’m constantly wearing the bralette and boy shorts as pajamas around the house. And if I have to run errands, I throw jeans, and a cardigan, overtop for a comfy, casual look.

          What I Liked

So, after wearing it for a year in every possible way I could think about, I’m ready to give you my final verdict on what I liked. I enjoyed many little things like the Merino wool fabric, adjustable straps, and even the built-in shelf bra (sometimes). However, the three main categories that separate these bralettes and boy shorts from the rest of the competition are their versatility, comfort, and affordability. Let’s look further into each.

          Versatility

Women Stretching on Bridge Wearing A Ridge Merino Bralette

Honestly, I can wear this bralette with nearly any outfit. It’s a to-go laidback outfit with a white boyfriend-style shirt and biker shorts or jeans. I can wear it with athletic shorts for a simple summer look. And I can even wear it under a cardigan in the winter months. I can wear this Merino wool bralette all year round!

As for underwear, I typically prefer thongs for everyday use. It’s not like I’m not too fond of more coverage. I simply don’t the showing outline when wearing briefs or hipsters with slim-fitted bottoms. Giving boy shorts a chance was definitely a win for me. They provide a seamless and smooth silhouette under clothing. Which is exactly what I was looking for.

Together, the bralette and boy shorts come in a variety of colors which makes it easy to pair them with other Ridge Merino tops and bras for a complete set.

          Comfort & Fit

Ridge Merino Bralette and Shorts Both Front And Back View

It really feels like I’m wearing nothing.

The bralette has a wide, elastic band at the bottom that sits comfortably on the ribcage without feeling too tight. However, it only provides low-to-medium support and is unsuitable for high-impact activities, but it works excellent for light workouts, yoga, and everyday wear.

In addition, I found the fit of the Ridge Merino boy shorts to be excellent. The waistband is wide and elasticized, offering a secure and comfortable fit without digging into the skin or sliding down. Which, with some other Merino wool underwear, I’ve had issues with.

          Affordability

If you’re a seasoned Merino wool lover, you know this gear can be expensive. The cost is actually one of the few downsides of Merino wool. Fortunately, Ridge Merino offers a relatively low price tag for the bralette, boy shorts, and their entire collection, for that matter.

We develop high-quality Merino wool apparel that performs as well in daily life as it does in the wildest outdoor conditions. We’re inspired by nature to innovate and give back.

          – Ridge Merino Mission

These two items combined (~$70) can be purchased for less than your standard Merino wool tee, and I can guarantee you’ll get every penny out of them. The fabric and design are just as high-quality! However, if money’s tight, you can watch for Ridge Merino’s clearance page, where many of their products (including bralettes and boy shorts) can be on sale for up to 50% off. Also, by signing up for their email list, you can receive 15% off your first order.

          What I Didn’t Like

Even with all the aspects I enjoy, these clothes have two minor qualms: one for the bralette and one for the boy shorts. Nothing major, but I found little issues wearing them from the year. They are more like design suggestions than negatives. Still, take a look at each and decide for yourself!

          Bralette: No Room For Padding

Ridge Merino Bralette Built In Shelf Bra Front & Back

This bralette’s only disadvantage is that it doesn’t have removable bra pads. Despite two layers in a built-in shelf bra, you can still see the nipples outline, especially with lighter colors like faded rose or coyote.

I hope Ridge Merino will upgrade their design by adding removable pads, and we won’t have to wear nipple covers anymore.

          Boyshorts: No Room For “Padding”

Ridge Merino Boy Shorts Up Close

When buying the boy shorts, I thought they would be perfect for “those days.” Unfortunately, I found its fabric and construction uncomfortable to stick a pad on. I know it’s small, but Merino wool doesn’t mesh well with the sticky stuff. It is what it is, but I usually won’t wear the boy shorts when it’s my time of the month.

Final Note About The Ridge Merino Bralette & Boy Shorts

Ridge Merino Bralette Fabric Up Close

Overall, the Ridge Merino Women’s Bralette is an excellent choice for those who value comfort, support, and functionality in their undergarments. This bralette will keep you comfortable and confident all day with its adjustable straps, wide elastic band, and breathable, odor-resistant fabric. Pairing it with the boy shorts makes a fantastic top and bottom underlayer.

Ridge Merino clothing delivers on all fronts, whether for everyday comfort or durable and versatile gear for physical activities. Give both the bralette and boy shorts a try.

Wool in the summer? Are you crazy?! Well, this isn’t your grandma’s wool. It’s high-performing, ultralight, odor-free Merino wool.

And it makes the perfect material for summer tees, tanks, and camisoles.

The reason is that Merino wool is a temperature regulator. It keeps your body warm when it’s cold but also keeps you cool when it’s hot. How else would the sheep survive in ever-changing weather conditions?

Today, I’ll review five tees, tanks, and camisoles you may want to add to your wardrobe. That’s fifteen in all! And the best part about them? They’re all Merino!

          Best Women’s Merino Wool Tees

          Unbound Merino Women’s V-Neck Tee

          100% Merino wool | 190 gsm | Relaxed fit | 7 colors | $$$$

          Unbound Women's Merino Wool V-Neck T-Shirt Beige

Pros: Flattering, free-flowing fit | Excellent color selection | Best for travel

Cons: Limited availability | Color variation from online

If you’re a travel buff and are unfamiliar with Unbound Merino, you’ve really been missing out. They create some of the comfiest and most stylish travel clothing for men and women. The best part is that all their fabric is high-quality, super soft Merino wool. And, in terms of tees, their v-neck is by far our favorite.

The free-flowing fabric and soft, 17.5-micron Merino fibers provide an extraordinarily soft next-to-skin feel. At 190 gsm, the material is lightweight enough to keep you cool in the summer sun while insulating sufficiently to provide warmth as an underlayer in the winter. It’s hard to believe there is so much versatility built into only one tee!

Another thing I love about this tee – and most Unbound Merino Clothing – is the mature, fashionable color offerings. For example, this tee has unique shades like CaramelIvory, and other elegant, seasonal colors. However, there’s an issue; these colors always sell out quickly! It’s good that they are popular, but waiting on your desired tee (size & color) to return to stock can be a hassle.

Finally, while I’m a v-neck girl for life, I understand that others like more of a scoop. If that’s you, luckily, Unbound Merino has other tee designs, like their Pocket Boxy Tee, that still utilize the same high-performing fabric. They’ll even let you select a pack of three tees (at a great discount), and you can choose whichever necklines you’d like! Either way, you know you’re getting one of the best women’s Merino wool tees when you choose Unbound Merino.

Smartwool Women’s Merino Short Sleeve Tee

          88% Merino, 12% Nylon | 150 gsm | Slim fit | 5 colors | $$$

Smartwool Womens Merino Short Sleeve Tee Green

Pros: Enhanced durability | Ultralight, comfy fabric | Best ‘basic’ Merino wool tee

Cons: Longterm shape concerns | Lighter colors may be translucent

In the world of Merino wool, Smartwool is among the top brands. You may know them from their selection of high-performance socks, but they also offer a diverse array of Merino wool clothing and accessories. As they’ve been around for so long, they’ve developed a formula for success by relying on their expertise. And one product that embodies this knowledge is their women’s short sleeve tee.

So, why is the standard of a Merino wool tee? Simple, it’s simple! It’s just your basic slim-fit tee. No major frills or design features (outside the fabric) stick out. So, you can wear it to the gym, for a walk, at the store, or even just around the house. And, since the material is a wool-nylon blend, it’s more durable than traditional Merino. This fiber mixture helps maintain the shirt’s longevity, as the ultralight, breathable fabric sometimes needs extra strength to survive the washing machine. Even then, you’ll want to take proper care to ensure the shirt retains shape over time.

And while I commend this tee for being the ‘perfect ordinary shirt,’ I understand that you may be looking for something more extraordinary. Fortunately, Smartwool has a solid collection of Merino wool tops, tanks, & tees for all styles, activities, and body types. Head on over to their store today to see more!

          Woolx Gabi Tunic Top

          85% Merino, 12% nylon, 3% spandex | 150 gsm | Loose fit | 4 colors | $$$$

Woolx Gabi Tunic Top Pink Stripes

Pros: Lightweight yet durable | Flowing, relaxed fit | Versatile style

Cons: Limited color options | Sizing discrepancies

If you’re looking for a loose, free-flowing tee for summer fun, Woolx has you covered with the Gabi Tunic Top. The ultralight, breathable fabric will keep you cool even on the hottest days. Moreover, the curved hem and tunic length offers a unique casual style.

One of the best things about the Gabi Tunic Top is its versatility. It can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. You can pair it with jeans or leggings for a more casual look, or you can pair it with a skirt or dress pants for a more dressed-up look. Although, I do wish there were more color options available. Maybe I’ll have to wait until next season.

Still, I love this tee’s fabric composition. You get comfort and performance from the top-notch, Woolmark-Certified Merino wool (85%). The remainder is a mixture of nylon (for added strength) and spandex (for added stretch). So, when you put it all together, you get a soft, flexible, and durable fabric!

The Woolx Gabi Tunic Top is a great all-around shirt for various summer activities. It uses soft, high-quality materials and is well-made (as are all of Woolx’s creations). Wool& Stella Scoop Neck Tee

          78% Merino, 22% Nylon | 160 gsm | Roomy fit | 12 colors | $$$

Wool& Stella Scoop neck tee in natural white

Pros: Fitted at the chest, roomy around the body | High-quality material | Versatile summer wear

Cons: Must launder with care | May hold odors after several wears

With another luxurious cut and free-flowing drape, the Wool& Stella Scoop Neck Tee makes our best Merino tee list! The shirt is more fitted around the chest, with a roomier, more relaxed fit around the midsection. So, if you’re like me and haven’t done a sit-up in a while, this tee will help to hide any imperfections while looking good.

And, as I’m a Merino wool lover at my core, I must mention how awesome this fabric feels. The soft-to-the-touch, 17.5-micron wool feels effortless, while the ultralight (160 gsm) fabric provides breathability. And, since Wool& uses a wool-nylon blend, the material is strong. Still, due to the synthetics, it may pick up some body odor over time. My advice: wash it (carefully) after a few wears or whenever it starts picking up funk.

All in all, the Wool& Stella Scoop Neck Tee is a fantastic choice for all ages. The unique fit, soft fabric, and elegant style make it essential for summer picnics, barbecues, and outdoor get-togethers. So, jump on over to Wool& to see more! And if you don’t like this tee, their store has dozens of other styles available.

          Merino.Tech Women’s Tee

          100% Merino wool | 165 gsm | Standard fit | 30+ colors/styles | $$

Pros: Top price-to-quality ratio | Almost every color | Free pair of socks

Cons: Pilling may occur | Longevity concerns

If you’ve dug further into these tees, you’ll understand Merino Wool clothing can be expensive. In fact, it’s one of the few downsides of Merino wool. However, some brands focus on creating basic, affordable Merino clothing, and Merino Tech is one of them. They offer the same great Merino wool gear as some other brands, all at a price that won’t break the bank.

And you may be thinking, “Wouldn’t a cheaper shirt mean a cheaper product?” Well, sometimes, yes. But in the case of this tee, no way! I’ve been rocking my Merino Tech shirt for years without any issues. It’s my go-to tee when all I need is a tee. There haven’t been any issues in the laundry besides some initial pilling. It’s the same high-quality material as the other brands at a fraction of the price!

Plus, Merino Tech has an extensive color selection, thirty in all! There’s nearly every fabric shade you can think of! I stuck with the basic black tee, but it’s safe to say if there’s a color you want, Merino Tech has it.

Oh yeah, and you also get a free pair of hiking socks! Now that’s a true deal on Merino Wool Gear!

Best Women’s Merino Wool Tank Tops

          Woolly Cropped Tank Top

          95% Merino, 5% Elastane | 150 gsm | Modern fit | 3 colors | $

Woolly Cropped Tank Top Canary Yellow

Pros: Excellent breathability | Flattering cut | Great for the gym

Cons: Limited size options | Limited color options

If you’re looking for new, comfortable, and versatile pieces to add to your wardrobe, the Woolly Cropped Tank may be your best choice. It has a flattering drape and cropped hem, which sits just high enough not to be too revealing. It hits your curves in the right places.

Not only is the style favorable, but so is the material. It’s a 95/5 blend of wool & spandex. So, you get all the beneficial natural properties from Merino, with a little extra stretch for athletic activities. The fabric flexibility makes this my favorite Merino wool tank top for yoga. There’s just so much room for movement!

And although this style is rather new, it’s become popular quickly. So, you may not see your color or size available at first. However, Woolly tends to release new color options and restocks seasonally, so keep an eye out throughout the year.

So, if you live an active lifestyle, you will love this tank top. It’s the perfect piece for your summer wardrobe. And if the cropped tank is different from your style, head over to Woolly for more tank & tee styles. There are a handful to choose from!

          Ibex Women’s Essential Racerback

          83% Merino, 12% Nylon, 5% Elastane| 140 gsm | Next-to-skin fit | 7 colors | $$$

Ibex Womens Essential Racerback Tank Oatmeal Melange

Pros: Best for athletic endeavors | Next-to-skin comfort | One of my favorite all-season underlayers

Cons: Tight fit, not for everyone | Initial itchiness may occur

Many Merino wool tees and tank tops we’ve discussed have been free-flowing, relaxed fits. However, Merino wool is one of the best base layer materials, so you should explore a tank with a tighter fit. That way, you can layer overtop without any extra fabric bunching. And of all the tight-fitting Merino wool tanks I’ve tried, the Ibex Essential Racerback is my favorite (Ibex Update: the latest release has a looser fit, so size down for snugness).

I like this tank for summer outdoor activities. It does a fantastic job regulating sweat, as the ultralight (140 gsm) fabric dries quickly. And, if it gets slightly chilly at night, I can throw on a shirt overtop for extra warmth. There’s no fabric bunching due to the snugger fit, either! Still, if it’s you’re first time wearing it, be mindful that some users report an initial itchy feeling. This feeling is normal for Merino wool clothing and typically disappears after the first wash.

I highly recommend the Ibex Essential Racerback tank for anyone who is always on the move. The back design provides plenty of shoulder movement, while the fabric does an excellent job at regulating your core temperature. And as this tank is available in various colors, you are bound to find one that suits your style! Head to Ibex, and add the Essential Racerback to your wardrobe soon!

          Wool& Poppy Tank

          78% Merino, 22% Nylon | 160 gsm | Standard fit | 5 colors | $$$

          Wooland Merino Poppy Tank Blue

Pros: Reversible design | Cut hides imperfections | Style for all ages

Cons: Hem length may be too short for some | Some color discrepancies

Wool& makes our tee, tanks, and camisoles list again with their Poppy Tank. Crafted from the same material as their Stella Scoop Neck, you’re getting the highest quality Merino wool fabric. It’s soft, odor-resistant, and cool to the touch. As I’ve been around Merino wool gear for years, I can tell you it’s one of my favorite fabrics.

But there’s one more about this tank top that sets it apart: it’s reversible! The A-frame style allows you to wear it as a v-neck or crew. I like to mix the necklines with various outfits to get the most out of one single tank top. The style is more mature and suitable for all ages- as are most of Wool&’s products – but some users report that the hem needs longer. I don’t think it’s an issue, but I don’t have that long of a torso. I’m only 5’1″!

Finally, I wish this Poppy Tank had more color choices, but the four currently available are nice. Although, some wearers have found some discrepancies between the color of the product image and the final product. Again, I haven’t seen this issue, but if you’re concerned, browse through the ratings section before you buy one!

Icebreaker Women’s Merino Sphere II Tank

          60% TENCEL™, 40% Merino | 125 gsm | Regular fit | 7 colors | $$$

Icebreaker Women's Merino Sphere II Tank Top Purple Gaze

Pros: Super ultralight | Technical hiking features | Soft, comfortable fabric

Cons: Large armholes | Expensive for a tank

Let’s get one thing straight: the Merino Sphere Tank is super ultralight. The fabric weight is 125 gsm, less than two sheets of paper. On the scale, the small is only 4 ounces! Icebreaker uses advanced Cool-Lite™ jersey fabric that allows your core to breathe so you don’t overheat. Pretty neat, right?

Icebreaker’s design incorporates subtle technical features, making this tank ideal for outdoor adventure. For example, the offset shoulder seams prevent ‘stick rash’ from carrying a heavy hiking backpack. Also, the drop-tail hem adds extra coverage so your pack doesn’t chafe your lower back.

Still, the armholes are rather large, and if you aren’t wearing a sports bra, this tank may be too revealing. It’s not necessarily a negative thing, just something to watch out for if you’re on the fence.

Finally, Icebreaker is always one of our favorite Merino wool brands. They create high-performance clothing with some of the best technical features in the industry. And you may not see it from this basic Merino wool tank top, but there’s a lot of expertise that goes into every stitch. We wouldn’t expect anything less from Icebreaker.

          Unbound Merino Muscle Tank

          100% Merino wool | 175 gsm | Classic fit | 3 colors | $$$

Unbound Merino Women's Muscle Tank Black

Pros: Classic, stylish cut | Top-notch versatility | Grade-A sustainability

Cons: Minimal color selection | Sizing discrepancies

Muscle tanks made from soft, odor-free Merino wool are an excellent addition to any capsule wardrobe—the large armholes and relaxed fit offer a range of outfit options. You can pair it alone with jeans for a stylish, casual look or wear it underneath a sweater for extra warmth. This versatility is why Merino wool muscle tanks are one of our favorite travel companions. And in the travel department, Unbound Merino and their women’s muscle tank are the strongest.

The material is lightweight (175 gsm), 100% Merino wool jersey that feels ever-so soft against the skin. There shouldn’t be any irritation or sweating, as the classic, stylish cut is extremely breathable. And not only will your body look and feel good with this Muscle Tank, but you’ll have a good conscious knowing that Unbound Merino sources all their wool sustainably and ethically. They know the best way to keep their customers happy is to keep the sheep happy, and I couldn’t agree more!

Finally, Unbound Merino’s women’s collection only became available in the summer of 2022, so they are still building their standard color offerings. If you like the style of the tank but need help settling on the available colors, you can always reach out to Unbound Merino. They have an excellent support staff. And if simple human contact is too much of a hassle, wait until next season’s new color releases!

          Best Merino Wool Camisoles

          Ridge Merino Bralette

          83% Merino, 12% Nylon, 5% Spandex | 170 gsm | Tight fit | 9 colors | $

Women Wearing a Ridge Merino Bralette

Pros: Awesome next-to-skin layer | Surprisingly supportive | Relatively inexpensive

Cons: Seasonal color availability | No room for padding

I get it; it’s a bralette, not a camisole. But honestly, I’ve been doing this for years, and I still can’t tell the difference. And I happen to love my Ridge Merino Bralette, so much so that I’ll talk about it any time I can. The durable yet soft Merino wool fabric makes an excellent next-to-skin layer.

The fit is snug, as you would expect from a bralette. But I was surprised that the fabric is rather supportive. The elastic band at the bottom sits comfortably on the ribcage without feeling too tight, and the adjustable straps provide the perfect fit. Although, one design change I would love to see is chest pockets for reusable padding. Still, the bralette works well for low-impact activities or everyday wear (even if I have to wear nipple covers!).

Finally, the best part about this bralette is that it comes at a great price. Ridge Merino always strives to offer high-quality Merino wool gear at a reasonable price, which truly shows. All the clothing I’ve tested from them moves into my daily wardrobe rotation at some point, and this bralette is no different. I even have two: one olive and one rose!

Icebreaker Women’s Merino Siren Cami Singlet

          83% Merino, 12% Nylon, 5% LYCRA® | 150 gsm | Slim fit | 3 colors | $$$

Icebreaker Women's Merino Siren Cami Singlet Off White

Pros: Stretchy, form-fitting fabric | Adjustable straps | Warmth without bulk

Cons: Slightly transparent | Sizing inconsistencies

Icebreaker returns to our list with an elegant, comfortable Merino wool top: the Siren Cami Singlet. The broad scoop neck and adjustable straps help achieve your ideal fit, while the natural properties of Merino wool regulate your body temperature like no other fabric. Putting that little layer of Merino wool around your core will keep you cozy all day.

Moreover, the fabric has excellent stretch and recovery, so it should hug your curves nicely. That’s because Icebreaker blends 5% spandex into the material. Yet, since this camisole comes in some lighter shades, just be wary that the fabric may be see-through depending on the lighting. And while some users reported sizing discrepancies, we find it true-to-size.

In the end, you can’t go wrong with this Siren Cami Singlet, or any Icebreaker gear, for that matter. And sure, it may be on the more expensive end of the Merino wool spectrum. But with top-notch design features and high-quality fabric, they are 100% worth it!

          Smartwool Women’s Merino Lace Tank

          77% Merino, 23% Nylon | Lightweight lace knit | Slim fit | 5 colors | $$

Smartwool Womens Merino Lace Tank Dark Gray

Pros: Fantastic temperature regulation | Flattering scoop neck | Adjustable straps

Cons: Delicate fabric | Fit discrepancies

As mentioned, you can always count on Smartwool for comfy, high-performing Merino wool gear. And their Women’s Merino Lace Tank is one of the high-performing of them all! The unique lace material offers excellent moisture and temperature management properties.

While you may think the lace fabric is delicate, that’s not the case with this camisole. Smartwool uses a proprietary blend of Merino and Nylon, strengthening the material while maintaining wool’s natural properties. Still, you’ll want to be mindful of potential snags, which could damage the ultralight fabric.

Moreover, the lace material adds to the already elegant design. The contour should support your curves nicely, while the adjustable straps and large scoop neck will help you to achieve the best fit. Although, some users have noted that the cut isn’t flattering on all body types. If you’re concerned, take a look at the sizing charts.

Overall, the Smartwool lace tank works best as an underlayer. I wouldn’t wear it as a standalone piece out in public, mainly because of its transparency (it can be revealing). Still, it works well underneath a cardigan or just hanging out in the backyard! So, if you’re interested, click the link below to get one for yourself!

          Duckworth Women’s Vapor Camisole

          50% Polyester, 38% Merino, 12% Modal | 150 gsm | Slim fit | 5 colors | $$

Duckworth Womens Vapor Camisole Cabin Red

Pros: Adjustable straps | Holds shape over time | 100% Made in the USA

Cons: Only basic color options | Limited Merino wool composition

Hiking on the trail or strolling through the park, the Duckworth Vapor Camisole is an excellent choice for any outdoor activity. With adjustable straps and slim contour, you can get the perfect fit, whether wearing it by itself or as an underlayer.

At an ultralight fabric weight (150 gsm), this camisole should almost feel like you’re wearing nothing! Moreover, if you’ve seen our reviews about Duckworth before, you know that their Vapor fabric is one of our favorites. This tri-blend is extremely durable and helps wick away moisture from your skin. So, when you’re wearing this camisole, you shouldn’t have any issues with sweat.

And the reason their fabric has such superior performance because it all comes from Merino Sheep here in the USA. Well, Helle Rambouillet, a close cousin of the Merino, to be exact. Duckworth gets their wool from the Helle Ranch near Dillon, MT. Compared to sheep in Australia who experience milder climates, these Montana sheep have coats battle-tested in the American Rockies. So, the wool that comes out is the best of the best for mountainous outdoor activities. It’s just another reason why I love Duckworth so much!

In short, the Duckworth Vapor Camisole is a great everyday piece. You can wear it running, hiking, and even yoga! It’s also been great for layering under other shirts, perfect for colder weather. It’s just a solid functional top that you should have in you’re wardrobe.

          Woolly Cami Tank

          95% Merino, 5% Elastane | 150 gsm | Modern fit | 8 colors | $$

Woolly Womens Merino Wool Cami Tank Gray

Pros: Added stretch for comfort | Solid color selection | Excellent warmth-to-weight

Cons: Manufacturing inconsistencies | May shrink over time

Woolly rounds out our Merino wool tees, tanks, and camisoles with another great piece of foundationwear: the Cami Tank. This piece is an everyday underlayer meant to keep you warm when it’s cool and cool when it’s warm!

One of the things I like most about the tank top is the added stretch for comfort. I find it very comfortable to wear, even when moving around. The solid color selection is also nice. I like that there are a variety of colors to choose from (six in all), so you can find one that matches my style.

And with all of Woolly’s products, this Merino wool cami is focused on performance. The fabric is breathable, and the fit is snug (although I wish there were adjustable straps). Still, it could be better, as some users have reported manufacturer defects. Sometimes it’s a stitch here or an off-color there. Yet if you do have concerns, Woolly’s customer service department should take care of you (there are already systems in place for stuff like that). So, when you add it to your cart, know that one way or another, what you see is what you get!
